If ALA is sufficient, explain to me why vegans amd vegetarians have an increased risk of stroke and worse cognitive decline when compared to people that include fish in their diet. Yes cardiovascular health matters but the story does not end there.
@carolynlapota54952 күн бұрын
I had a brain stroke last January at 76. My cardiologist was always proud of my diet. He is not plant based. He told me after getting out of hospital to eat lots of protein. I make a protein drink most days with protein powder, greens, big chunks of cabbage, 1/2 cup of beans which I cannot taste, and the frozen fruit and flax seeds.. finally I have added tofu, tempeh to regular meals.

I used to eat kefir (a fermented yoghurt) when I wasn't vegan and really miss it. I'm looking into plant-based options if they exist in the UK. Have you ever tried it Dr Marbas and do you recommended as it is a fermented food? Thank you

I haven’t tried it but if you find a vegan version I think that would be great.

I've just had a shock today, my first terrible case of heartburn, I though I was dying it was so intense and I instinctively knew what it was. I'd just finished eating a huge portion of salad and veggies for lunch, plus roast chestnuts for carbs, I alternate the carbs but otherwise I eat this way daily. I had been suffering from sudden cough and pain in my throat for a while and worried it was cancer but tests were always negative. But I've just read that these can be signs or precursors of acid reflux/heartburn. I've also read that acidic foods can cause this, and I love balsamic vinegar on my salads (a little too much). I need to learn a bit of moderation, it's hard because I have a history of overeating from childhood. I'm going to reset my diet by reducing the volume of veggies and increasing carbs and maybe a little fats, I was already planning to do a Mary's Mini based on potatoes or rice, because I had been wondering for a while about the volume of low-cal foods I eat and the tummy bloating. So it was painful to get heartburn today but I've been feeling for about a year that my WFPB diet needed adjusting.

Soy does affect may thyroid hormones negatively. That is why avoid it. Maybe you are ok with it. But not everyone is the same. I really seriously wanted to be plant based whole foods diet. But for me, no matter how hard I try, the symptoms I experience from the so called healthy foods do not agree with me. And the adjustment period takes to long, if at all. Why should I continue eating in a way even after 1 year, my body does not want me to eat this food. So to keep eating this way and waiting for good results is really difficult. I get it, for some people they can have fantastic results and feel amazing. They are lucky, I am jealous of them. But for me the opposite is true. So to keep forcing myself to be totally plant based, in my case is counterproductive. I appreciate all the work you do and I enjoy your videos. I will work towards a healthy balance of foods. Proteins, fats, carbs, fibre. That makes me feel wonderful.

23 REASONS TO BE VEGAN 🟥 Being vegan is a social justice movement about saving animals from the Holocaust that billions of them are exploited in, hidden far away from our sight, without ever seeing the sky, feeling the sun, or breathing fresh air. ✔️ The latest scientific, peer-reviewed studies have proven that eating a well-planned vegan diet is extremely healthy at all stages of development. 🔅Many of the smartest people on earth, with access to the best doctors and research scientists, take a multivitamin pill with B12 and eat a wide variety of vegan foods to help the animals, the planet and themselves. 🐮 Cow's milk is for baby cows. You're not a baby or a cow. Each time you choose cow's milk or other dairy products, you are stealing from a baby cow. The boy cows are murdered because they are considered to be "useless" in the industry. Vegans don't believe in stealing from, or murdering innocent animals who have never done a single thing wrong to us ever. Watch earthlings.com to learn the truth. 🥦 Being vegan is a joyful way of living, and a moral baseline for any kind, sane individual. It’s our duty, while we’re alive on this earth, to strive to do the least harm to others. Being vegan is part of that. 🧄 Animal use, is the worst atrocity of our time because so many families participate in it, 3 times a day without giving it a second thought, which causes immeasurable suffering for pigs, cows, turkeys, chickens and countless other animals. 🍌 Being vegan is the least we can do to help animals, who have a right to life, liberty, and happiness, in the same way that we do. 🍆 Vegans don’t steal. They don’t steal animals’ fur, feathers, wool, eggs, milk, honey, freedom, body parts, or their lives. 🍉 Using, or killing someone, just because they look different from us is wrong. 🥝 If aliens came to earth and treated us the way we treat animals, we would be begging them to stop killing our babies and pleading with them to eat lentils, beans, rice, potatoes, tomatoes and tofu instead. 🍎 According to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, being vegan is healthy at any stage of development- one just has to eat enough calories, and a variety of foods each day, including fruits, green leafy vegetables, nuts, seeds, legumes and whole grains. 🥕 Being vegan helps protect the planet by reducing one’s carbon footprint. This allows the earth’s air, water, and soil to remain clean for both the animals and the next generations of children. 🫐 Everyone reading this was born vegan as it simply means doing the least harm to animals. Babies drink their mother’s milk which is vegan because it is given freely, not stolen. 🍇 All children who are placed in a room with a rabbit and a banana, will choose to play with the rabbit and eat the banana - not the other way around. All children intuitively love animals. This is why they want toy animals in their homes and love to watch them play together on TV. 🍐 It’s not your fault that your parents fed you the flesh of animals when you were a baby. You didn’t know the difference between a mashed- up carrot and a mashed-up carcass. You opened your mouth because you trusted your parents. But when you know better, you can do better, which means that, at any time, you can simply go back to your roots and be vegan again. 🌽 All religions want people to be kind. No religion tells anyone that they must eat flesh. All religions are open to veganism. 🍠 God (Good) wants us to do unto others as we want done to ourselves. This means that if we wouldn’t want our family members kidnapped, raped, forced to be pregnant and killed, we should not do it to anyone else. 🐷 Animals, like children, were put on earth for us to protect. Each of us can do our part, 3 times a day, by not paying anyone to kill them on our behalf. 🍅 Being vegan is easy as there are millions of healthy vegan recipes online and it has been proven that buying vegan foods like oats, beans, peas, rice, potatoes, spinach, cauliflower, broccoli, bananas, pasta, dates, bread, peanut butter, lentils, onions, is less costly because buying staples in bulk is not expensive. Feeding your body with love, and not death, will help you feel better both physically and emotionally. 🥥 Everyone who is vegan, should tell everyone they know and explain the reasons why. By being out and proud of your choice to be compassionate, you can inspire others to do the same. 🐏 Sheep are raped into existence by humans who tie them up, force them to be pregnant & have babies so they can eat them & steal their wool. Breeding and using animals is cruel. 🌎 All good people are vegan because good people don’t hurt innocent animals; they protect them from those who do. ✳️ All brave people are “out” as vegans. They tell everyone they’re vegan because, in this veganphobic world, to remain silent is cowardly and only adds to the animals’ suffering. Speaking out on behalf of the victims, means bravely defending them from systemic abuse.

I tried plant based about 5 years off and on. By the time I decided to give it up, I was eating ridiculous amounts of peanut butter and avocados to satisfy my hunger and nothing worked. Not to mention, I couldn’t stay out of the bathroom. Something as simple as eating a piece of chicken would stop my ibs immediately and my insatiable hunger. Plant based diets do include animal products by the way. Veganism does not.

Day 8 of not giving in to craving and I am feeling stronger and more confident that I will carry on. I take it one day at a time, and the good news is that the longer the gap between episodes to overeating and the present time, the weaker the cravings, in fact I'm not even thinking about cravings at all. I've gone back to eating my normal low-fat WFPB and loving it. It's important to take it one day at a time and pat yourself on the back for staying on track, maybe reward yourself with a nice walk or trying on different outfits, or some retail therapy. It feels good. Thank you Dr Marbas for dealing with this topic.

Interesting! I have been cutting meat from my diet the last 4 years and now get digestive issues if I eat red meat. I’ve been cutting back on poultry the last few months (avian flu is no joke!!) The video cuts off- but is what is found in animal by products and processed foods exasperated because of the sugar and animal protein blend?

🔑 **Key Tips for Starting Your Plant-Based Journey:** 1⃣ **Start Small:** Begin by replacing one meal a day with a plant-based option. 🥗 2⃣ **Focus on Whole Foods:** Prioritize fruits, veggies, whole grains, and legumes. 🍓🥦 3⃣ **Plan Ahead:** Make a shopping list and prepare meals in advance to avoid unhealthy choices. 🛒 4⃣ **Watch Out for Processed Foods:** Not all plant-based products are healthy-read labels carefully! 🏷 5⃣ **Stay Consistent:** It’s not about perfection; small steps lead to big changes. 🚶♀ 💡 **Takeaway:** A plant-based diet isn’t just about removing animal products-it’s about **adding more nutrient-dense, whole foods** to improve health and well-being! 🌱

Thorn makes a product called 'Ferrasorb' that is a vegetarian iron that helped me bring my iron levels up quickly bit with no unpleasant side effects. I did, however, do this under the supervision of a naturopath. She had me taking more than the recommended dose on the bottle. So if your ferretin is low, maybe considering consulting a naturopath... doctor would likely want to put you on heme iron source.

@DrLaurieMarbas6 күн бұрын
Sea moss can be a good addition to a plant-based diet as it is rich in several nutrients, including iodine, which supports thyroid health. However, it may not cover all your vitamin and mineral needs, especially for those following a plant-based diet.

B12 makes me break out so how can I get it to go up in my bloodwork? It is in range. But my homocystine is a little high?...any suggestions? And yes I take 250 mcg a few times a week. If I take the whole 500 tablet I break out.
@DrLaurieMarbas6 күн бұрын
Great question! B12 can sometimes cause breakouts in certain individuals, though it’s not common. If 500 mcg at once leads to breakouts, it might be worth trying smaller, more frequent doses, like 100-250 mcg daily, to see if that minimizes side effects while keeping levels in range. Another option is a sublingual B12 or a methylcobalamin spray, as these forms can sometimes be better tolerated. Since your homocysteine is slightly high, keeping your B12, folate, and B6 levels optimized is essential because they all work together to metabolize homocysteine. I’d suggest testing these levels to ensure they’re all balanced. Lastly, hydration, a nutrient-dense diet, and regular skincare can help manage any potential breakouts. Always check with your healthcare provider before adjusting your supplements.

People who are rude to others are the ones with the problems, nobody's ever criticised my food but if someone did I would probably ignore them, smile and say, "I love my food! Enjoy your meal!" I was brought up in Italy in the 1970s and my grandma used to say, "Look at your plate" - meaning, your own plate, not other people's. So if someone was persistently critical about what I'm eating, I would tell them the story, "When I was little my grandma used to say...." Hopefully they'll get the message.
