The interview on Mid West Radio with Gerry including him singing this and some of his other songs live in the studio accompanied purely by guitar was outstanding. A great station so good at promoting matters in Mayo and local artists. Listening over in Scotland daily this song is so well written when listened to is a respectful tribute to the ultimate sacrifice made by Private Kedian.

Love this song. Think it is on par with Phil Colter's song, "The Town I Love So Well". It is a song that will have so much meaning to a lot of people that had loved ones forced to travel to England to find work in order to put food on the table. Well done Gerry, brilliant.

wonderful song Gerry the best emigration song I know of..covers so many aspects of leaving home...this song was written with Gerrys uncle P.J.Kelly in mind. P.J. was killed on a building site accident in 1960s I was at his funeral in Bekan a very sad day.. There are many fine versions of this song but this is the original and the BEST...... Well done Gerry....

Yea, agreed with everything everyone said, I emmigrated in 1989 with 126 pounds and got of the bus and looked right and left and thought Ok which direction should I go at Victoria Coach station in London - only a young girl - its just happening all the time but thank God our young people are least going abroad with an education now. Well done Gerry - brilliantly captured

This is a wonderful song about the men forced to emigrate to foreign shores to survive the bad times in Ireland. God they worked hard and to dull the pain played hard too.

@pembrokeshire100 as you can see from the comments, you are pretty much alone in your opinion, but of course you are entitled to it. i am proud to have written this song, and it has changed my life. it is dedicated to my late uncle pj kelly, who was killed in a trench on a building site in england in 1964 at the age of 21 years. thanks for going to the trouble of posting your comment, its sbout the only negative one that i have recieved and it doesn.t bother me in the least
