LOVE Don Was. Detroit icon, master of his craft and an all around delight to listen to, whether it be his bass playing or his endless, extraordinary stories on The Motor City Playlist. Caught DW and the Pan Detroit Ensemble at Orchestra Hall on 5/24 and was delighted to hear so many extraordinary musicians just put it all out there. Was more rockin' jazz than I was expecting, but I was not disappointed. They kept raising the intensity steadily as the show went on.The Wolf Brother closed out the 2 hour set with a GD Shakedown/Loser which surprised me a bit, considering Loser is a bit of a sad tale of a gambling addict, but perhaps there was a nugget for us to think on in relation to current events. Regardless, they played the shit out of those songs and smoked the place. so much fun, I am privileged to have seen this show.
