Yeah the hockey grip is a brilliant idea for beginners. It forces you to pull the club through impact by rotating your hips. I switched to baseball grip but i havent tried your right hand thing. Next range session ill try it with a bucket of balls

Great advice Chad…my new mantra is “ course management!”. My thoughts now are I'm playing against “Old Man Par” ie.the course itself. I don’t care one hoot about what the other guys in my foursome are doing. If they are playing well I encourage them, if they’re playing poorly I encourage them, but I don’t let their success or failure influence me one iota. This attitude has now gotten me into a single digit handicap and I'm having a lot of fun without the stress. Cheers from Nova Scotia..MikeR.

Welcome back!! I think what you said makes a lot of sense, the other thing keeping people back is their elevated expectations of themselves. Here is an interesting stats for your viewers. From 100 yards in the rough the PGA Tour average of getting up and down is over 3 strokes. That means that they bogey more than they par. Is their rough deeper, probably, but they are the BEST golfers in the world. We think that put in the same situation that we are a failure if we don't make par from the same situation. Same goes for putting...we think that we should make 75% of our 8 foot putts, tour average 48%.
@GolfTestDummy

100 percent agree. There is this weird, dynamic balancing act, though in sports. A razors edge. You've got to be honest with yourself enough to realize things like what you just said, and that you aren't nearly as good as pros, while at the same time, having almost delusional confidence that allows you to step up and perform your best. It's a very fine line to walk.

If my club-release happens 1-2 feet after impact, i would logically have natural shaft lean at point of inpact. Right?
@GolfTestDummy
@GolfTestDummy 3 күн бұрын
That's what a lot of coaches say, yes. And I can't argue with the logic. For a lot of people though, that concept is very tough. Everybody has to do whatever they need to do in order to get the result they need. The ball won't lie.

Trying to hit a ball far without actually knowing "how," is a recipe for disaster. Every physically able adult should be able to hit the ball at least 250 yards. 220 is totally unacceptable and clearly indicates a major problem in the use of the club. There's some good info here but the real solution is learning how the golf club actually works. Yes, there is a specific way and no, it's not common sense.
@GolfTestDummy
@GolfTestDummy 5 күн бұрын
I agree with most of that, but we'd have to define what a physically able adult is. On the outside looking in, I might appear physically capable, as an example. But, I've got a pretty severely limited right wrist and, like a lot of people out there, overly worn joints from years of heavy labor. (Probably not helped by a less than ideal diet, too....) But, going beyond that, I've said plenty of times that understanding how the club needs to interact with the ball is a huge key, and should be one of the first things a person should learn when starting out. How the tool is used. Is that what you mean?
@HolyGrailOfGolf
@HolyGrailOfGolf 4 күн бұрын
@@GolfTestDummy Yes, but almost no one knows how the golf club works or that they're using it improperly. One of my students, a middle age very capable guy, told me he couldn't hit the ball past 220 ... He recently sent me a picture from his launch monitor ... Now that he's using the club properly he's carrying the ball 270. Also, it's not so much of how the golf club interacts with the ball that makes it unique it's really more how it works with us - our arms, hands, and body.

I don’t so much compare myself to others in my group. What I am guilty of (and just as dangerous) is comparing myself to how I used to hit the ball. I worked at courses during college and law school so I played a lot of free golf plus I was younger and stronger. I still have the same set irons, and I don’t hit them near as far as I used to. A radical example is I have one hole in one. It was 172 to the pin, and I hit an 8 iron. I probably hit my 8 iron maybe 140, 145 now if I really get on it. Between kids, not golfing as much (therefore not hitting the sweet spot as much), and just not being as strong as I once was, I mostly suck now. It’s hard to accept and play within my current abilities. I still want to get more consistent and hit it longer, but the distance I had 10-12 years ago is gone for good lol. Trying to keep up with others in your group doesn’t make the game fun. It actually makes the game a slog. What’s fun is knowing you don’t hit as far off the tee, but end up with the same score on the hole - or better yet, you score better. THAT’S what’s fun. Play YOUR game.

Missed you Chad. Hope all is well. Couldn’t agree more, we all need to be realistic with our carry distances and the only way to know is to track it. Golf is one of the sports that doesn’t have a defendant in front of you, so you’re really playing the course and not your playing partners. So play the course and ignore what others are doing. The only time you’re concerned about the other player is in Match Play. Always always play your game, you’re absolutely correct. Cheers.

There are 1000 videos out there to solve 'over the top' ...you just have to find the one that works for you, no particular one is the golden ticket, not this one (sorry!) or the next one or the 587th one...but one of them (or a combination of them) probably is.. I happen to find 'the pause' is working for me this week but next week? it might not be! I HATE this effing game so much! (and I love it).

I like your philosophy a lot, nowadays people care so much about how their golf swing postures look in front of others, it's all fake and so rigit to go by the book, they need to think out of the box like you and other people who had spend time to watch and read the history of golf swing, the older generation swing the clubs effortlessly and make the golf swing so simple and fun game to play. Dumbest thing is to kill all the natures of : momentum, gravity, centripetal force, "comfort" of body movement....so dumb!

Hey Dummy,😎 I subscribed, love you breaking down Marcus’s swing. Couple things to try just for giggles, one is a senior flex, I know sounds crazy but Dechambeau uses or has used a ladies flex. I hit bombs with my Project X, 40gram evenflow riptide on a ping G400 set at 8 degrees tee up almost 4 inches. If you can get total loft of about 14 degrees that’s 8 degree driver swinging up 6 degrees your spin drops to 2000 and you gain 50 yards seriously hitting 300 is achievable. Oh also that shaft is all over eBay for cheap, PXG offers it as an option with there new drivers. Sounds nuts but I’ve proven it. It’s just more fun stuff to try, right, hey why not. Keep the vids coming, love your approach. JS
