Oh boy I think you would have Castlevanias or 2D Metroid games, specially when find out about Walljumping or the fact that you can combo bomb yourself to get to higher places early on the game (can be hard unless you figure out the timing early on too) just to be a forgotten but still able choice the movement unlock "Space Jump" (lets you infinitely jump and get higher and higher and the game becomes much easier to gst to higher places and no longer need to walljump). My god you would hate playing 2D platformer games or 2D Mario games with intentional seemingly glitch mechanical just to find out later they were intentionally added so the player could figure it out themselves just like in this Metroidvania *MINIGAME* out of all things. Just like Suoer Smash Bros creator had all those broken mechanics on Melee intentionally done and even he would pitch in and explain them to player 23 years ago when the internet wasn't that crowded yet. Yes, some 2D platformer/metrovanias with room transitions have a jump-transition to get a higher boost intentionally done. Congratulations, you found one of videogames many gimmick done by game designers that actually care about their player base. Hope you found the room with the background writing. You were expected to learn this room transition jump boost early on by your own curiosity or noticing that you were gaining height while holding up and optionally holding left or right but still getting higher when entering another room... Learned this trick on day one, got far early on because of it, good stuff.

I have played a lot of Metroidvanias. This one was not great. While they mirrored the size of the map of other games, they did not mirror the feeling of meaningful progression. The sense of exploration felt extremely hollow, as there are a lot dead ends with just empty space or a single gold enemy and nothing else. Zoomed in select screen on the teleport menu frequently made me exit the menu and press 'M' again to figure out where the teleport actually went to. The enemy variety never changing and instead just becoming bullet sponges made me want to just invul dash and ignore everything as it wasted a lot of time. Enemies dropped way too little in the terms of gold to justify killing them. Laser was an utterly worthless move, and parry blocked only a single bullet unless you air dashed with it. If I wanted a game with meaningful sequence breaking and cool trick movement I would play Rabi Ribi again.

@sibladeko thats cool to know, was a bit worried since you seemed a bit negative against 13.5 in your latest touhou video (i find that funny cuz i think the second gen of th fighting games starting with 13.5 is quite a lot better than soku and prequels), i joined the Community a year ago and i prefer the newer games over the older ones so its cool to see such an OG still active (kinda)

They've been pretty hit with their minigames but this one was not it. Too many meat shield filled circuitous dead ends into nothing or a single loot goblin for a tiny amount of gold.

So the thing I assumed was a bug/glitch between scene transitions the entire time I played through this, was actually an intentional mechanic. Truly the pinnacle of game design when the player can't figure that out and nothing indicates that is what that is supposed to be used for.

Sometimes this song randomly switches to Narwhal on Pterygota queen and I have no idea why. Same also happened with Lamia and Trailblazer's Revelation switched to Last Resort which is even more bizarre. Banger theme though, only wish it was longer, but I guess the duo of Haloweak and Ghostfinal is too much for this universe to bear for long
