Today, I've shaken off various chains that held me down, I've got a new romance brewing, an old friend I'd lost touch with reached out to reconnect...I feel free and strong and loved and ready for anything. Some god somewhere has smiled on me. This song reflects my feeling today.

I fell in love with Ron perlman in his role as Vincent in beauty & the beast. He was such a romantic character, even as a beast. A beautiful beast in appearance & spirit.

I remember when the Cliff House had that redwood decor on the outside when George Whitney owned it in the 50's. Also in this movie a SFPD squad car is shown parked right out in front of the merry go round building entrance on Cabrillo & the great highway at Playland at the beach!!!

Wow! Watching this brought back so many memories of being there as a kid just before it closed. I recall the steep stairway going down to the baths and all the interesting attractions along the way! 🥰

My mom and her sisters used to go here when they were young, so cool to see the Sutro baths from inside.

Cool to see the interior after Whitney (who owned PlayLand) bought the business and land from Sutro's son in 1952 (for $250K). He's the one who put the ice rink in.

In 1967, we (my family) had been in Tacoma, WA for nearly 3 years. Alcatraz not a distant memory yet. My dad worked at McNeil Island then and the second prison he would see close in his career. What I like about this short intro to the film, is that in 1967, the apartments, I slept in while my dad was one of the last care takers of the Island, are still standing. In 1970, the Navy sent me to Treasure Island for training, I could see the east side of the Rock and remembered how forbidding the Island always felt when I spent the weekends with my dad. I am amazed that Alcatraz was a small part of my history.

John Giles (AZ-250) lived from 1895 to 1979. He arrived on Alcatraz in 1935 and attempted in a now-famous escape in 1945. Technically, Giles did escape Alcatraz and made it to Angel Island where he was immediately captured and returned to Alcatraz.
