its good to see more tuts in the painting area of coat. ive used both substance painter and coat on several models now. i like both systems but i think coat has a simpler interface easier but same capability as sp its just organized a little differently which becomes interesting when you use both. i think baking needs some improvement in coat features like different cage settings per polymodel remembered per each, sp has improved its baking alot since it launched. marmoset is prob still my fab baker for capability.

Grcias !!
The fact that 3d coat has a ton of smart materials on their website makes this software better than substance painter imho. its ability to do more manual and controlled texture work along with its 500+ smart materials is really impressive.

I almost stop using it unfortunately and just to tell you why, i have download the 2023 version and again it's the same mess, first tried to use the voxel paint room and most brush did not work as expected, second i tried the suppose better app-link for blender and use send for UV and the model was send to painting room with normals flip. Also i had to fight to locate the 3d model since in various room it simply vanish from the viewport. Even if coat have great features it's not acceptable to have so much inconsistency when trying to work with it. Sad but to work with this software you constantly have to fight with it! In blender i have consistency and the behaviour of the software is always as expected.
@thenerdforumforever Жыл бұрын
Your point is great, which is why I primarily use 3d coat for texturing only. The modelling, sculpting and UV unwrapping, all happens in Blender

Again thanks so much for making these. I love how you were able to bake a Curvature Map for the Smart Materials to reference - that included normal details you had added earlier in the session. I don't even know if you can do that in Substance painter. I'm Super in impressed with Textura.
@rhodri1310 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for making this tutorial, very helpful. There are so few on Textura. I'm a total nube and I had some issues going through this, some were the same as the presenter, some different. Here are some notes about the issues and how I resolved most of them: If you press 'apply' on the stencil and it does nothing, or something weird - you may have a strip still turned on in the Strips Pallet from earlier in the tute, hit the 'X' button to turn it off. The Text Tool Options box has a tick box for 'Flip Text' this helped me working in the Texture Editor as it was inverted like the presenter. Also try drawing out your curve line back to front, ie. Right to Left in the Texture Editor. The Smart Material Preview Window was collapsed for the presenter. Hit the little pin icon in the top right corner to de-collapse it.

Hello! Thank you for posting! If I may ask how does 3dcoat not fill the entire model? Does it use the uv map as a guide??
@thenerdforumforever2 жыл бұрын
It works by filling sections of the model without edge loops (the mesh should be a whole). So if there are any detachments within the model regardless of it being one combined mesh, it's going to treat it as separate objects so they wouldn't be painted all at once, rather you would have to fill them one by one.
@pieralessi7426 Жыл бұрын
Now use Fill tool

i think the problem with mirrored tools with text and image may relate to whether your uvs are mirrored or not facing the way you think they are in blender. i think blender has a uv check for mirrored uvs or flipped wrongly uvs. thats something to look at while uv working. make sure the textures are going the way you expect them to. heres a helpful hint: Use textured preview in the 3D view panel and the alphabet grid background in the UV layout editor. If the letters show up backwards on some parts of the model, there’s your clue your uvs are flipped the wrong way. also try making your art work white instead of black that may also help with which way the normals go either into or out of the model. black may be confusing the program making it inverted because its making the assumption the art is white....you can also dock the texture panel to the vertical right to make 3d and that side by side all panels are dockable dynamically just move it around and the blue highlight will show where it will dock into.

It seems that you have an in depth knowledge regarding the use of the material applying system of 3D Coat, so it would be very helpful to keep making tutorials on it (the step by step ones are better of course). In depth tutorials on 3D Coat are not so many in the Net. It is a very powerful app and it is a pity to stay neglected.

im struggling so much with 3dcoat. how can i group surfaces? In keyshot i can combine and group needed surfaces to objects/groups very easily. I dont know how to do that in 3dcoat im very lost. in keyshot that process is very simple andit makes applying smart materials very simply. I would love to learn to to that in 3dcoat. Also the default smart materials in 3dcoat is very short. In keyshot i have tons of different metals and textures and i can only find after market smart materials for 3d coat. I wish there were coursed here i could take for 3dcoat.

If your prime focus is texturing in 3D Coat, I would suggest getting the new 3d Coat Textura which is mainly just for texturing: pilgway.com/product/3dcoattextura I will be dropping new tutorials on how to use it, shortly.

kzbin.info/aero/PLTws_PUJ0rh7UilUzES43A-CwtnwHmZly 322 vids on many coat things. re grouping...if your grouping models make an empty model layer then add things to it it will essentially become a group. when you do that coat will thing all those things are one object when baking out something. match your retopo geo name to the group name and it will work. i also wish coat would ship with more pre sets. with pbr stuff thats really critical. thats something substance and marmoset does well.
