She seemed happy to say, "DBT is getting out of her hand". You are a hero, Marsha! Having said that, the downside is that many people think they are buying DBT when they are receiving bits of the treatment, not the whole group, and phone, talk sessions, skill sessions, and whatnot. I know seeing your videos for the first time on "The Borderliner Notes" back in 2018 I saw it, brought me so much hope. Thank you for everything you helped me and many people with BPD, Ms. Linehan. Sorry about the English, I´m from Brazil. You are very well-known around the BPD community here nowadays btw!

Saved my life. I was at high risk for lethal relapse. In 2019 i waa dependent on heroin, benzos, and meth. I detoxed 5 times that year both in and out of a detox facility. I kept putting myself in rehabs and would end up relapsing again. The 3rd inpatient rehab offered me buprenorphine and i took it. I will have years clean in October. I believe buprenorphine cured my depression because my depression never returned and that always lead to relapse. When you feel like nothing matters and you always feel tired, you say fuck it. But on buprenorphine i worked full time and for the first time as an adult i felt like a normal functioning human. I could work hard and handle life. I believe its kappa receptor activity plays a roll in depression. Im aware that detox from it is terrible which is why i have no plans of going off of it. If i ever do i will probably lower it over multiple years.

fantastic overview- I would love access to some of the documents the presenter mentioned, especially the 72-hour checklist given to patients considering AMA discharge.

-5 stars for my experience here. I had had more then a drinking issue and was told by my Doctor that this place offed a rehab program. I went in for the 30 day program. At first it was ok. The staff were for the most part helpful ,then after a while became rude and at times insulting towards myself and other patients They would routinely make fun of us behind our backs when they thought they could not be heard. Rude/ snide remarks were common. Condescending remarks and attitudes towards us was a daily issue, especially directed at myself for some reason. I was singled out by some of the more hateful staff, was called names by them...Talked down to , shouted at ect...The violence I saw first hand was unreal between the patients. Fist fights broke out, shouting matches, girl fights, two escape attempts. Violence was a almost daily occurrence. I saw two girls have scalding hot coffee tossed on them. The coffee tosser was finally removed from the hospital after several instances with this patient....I believe he was in for meth. Also even if you've checked yourself in willingly they try to keep you as long as they can, against your will. They'll say you'll get an A.M.A (against doctors advise) and keep you. They more or less tell you , you can't leave even though if you're not court ordered to be there you can sign yourself out legally. This place is referred to for vets that have addiction issues and there were tons of vets here telling their stories, so I mentioned my Dads service in Vietnam and was then labeled for stolen valor for no reason by the staff and most of the others there for treatment ,was picked on by the male staff who were vets..."look at the pussy" shouts "stolen valor"!!! Yep some real compassion there for a hopeless drunk like me. I managed to get tf out of there after 20 days. One of the staff said he'd be waiting for me in the parking lot over their perceived notions of me stealing valor on my Dads behalf. He served and I happen to be more then a bit proud of him. Didn't matter to these people...They threatened violence on me. Being called a liar by staff is not conducive for recovery. DO NOT GO HERE.

i am roughly the same age(1957) as Mac and she's always been in my consciousness. We share some same experiences although she could probably afford more drugs than I could. I just want to ask her; who was the drunk addict- Laura, Mackenzie or Laura? I am so happy that she is healthy and happy as we sally forth into our senior years.

Mackenzie I think you are a hero and I respect you 💯 I've never been abused and I never abused drugs. But however I worked as a pediatric nurse for decades and I have cared for many ( more than I'd like to admit) These poor children i took care of that gad been abused were going thru hell most especially the young children that were sexually abused by their parents...just a very sad sinerio...but I lways 🙏 prayed that even in a small way I made there life a little bit better!

I truly don’t understand how one woman can be credited with creating a standard of living that so many institutions make money off of. Did she take others people’s credit? Literally the DBT Handout lists one creator/author. I doubt her so much.

She did indeed create it, but her goal was to help people, not charge for some kind of licensed service fee. She wants the therapy to spread and be used successfully, she wants to save lives.

Biomagnetic therapy is a great resource for his as well. This more holistic approach to the mind/soul/body is a good move. Western society has been too influenced by materialistic philosophy and Freud.

We addicts ☹️😣 desperately need and desperately appreciate y’all professionals and the treatment teams. Please continue to educate others in this field that’s so under serve. I … a struggling addict …. Who struggle alone and isolate from the world is left to attempt to heal by self medicate thru self education. Like this webinars and about 5 other 60+ mins lecture/discussions on KZbin. I’m forced to just listen over and over and take notes most days. Why ??? Bc yes we are scared. Yes slew actual want change however the frustrating part is the lack of help. Just this week I’ve called every nunber google search provided including calling National hotline for my county and no answer. I’ve called centeres. No call backs. I’ve walked into 24 hr in/out patient centers only to be held in the intake room for 4 hours without no one checking on me or coming to me or attempting to help me. Only when I demand to be let out is when personnel wanna grab their chart and say “we can do the onstage assessment now “. Well NO !!!! This is not the care I wanna receive so I will leave. Yesterday I made myself go 12 hours of last use - having mild withdrawal symptoms and walked into another center for first come first serve-- and , once again was told to call another person …. Left there and drove to the ER … begging them not to send me home bc I was afraid I might do something harmful to myself but guess what ???? Ed physician said she couldn’t help bc they have no beds or funding bc their beds for a patient like me was not available- these so called beds for detoxing and monitoring and treatment are now for pt with Covid (3years after the pandemic now 😕🫣🤔☹️😠) I didn’t even have to be discharged. I was once again told to keep trying. WHAT MORE CAN I DO ????!!!!!! I’ve called everywhere. I went everywhere. So I just went back to using my DOC , isolated came home and continue finding my own way trying to beat this disease by myself (no one lives with me ) and pray pray 🙏 I come out on other side one day. Can y’all please educate or bring a program to Kansas City Missouri bc we have wayyyyy more undercover addicts that need help!!!!

That was fascinating and super helpful. Ironically, I am just starting Buprenorphine, naltrexone. But now I feel way less guilty. I fit those categories-feeling normal in pain pills. Also ironically, I’m getting off Kratom. I’m going to suggest all my providers, VA Substance Abuse Treatment Program physicians and my psychiatrist, and SATP group support coordinator, watch the seminar. I hope you’ve tried to include the VA to educate our doctors.

Don't know how addicts dying is funny, but psychology shows us cutting off addicts from their friends and family usually causes a peak in using and mental health issues leading to overdose and wreckless behavior. Addicts need friends family and unconditional love. Not to mention putting a mentally ill person on television for money and advertising is unethical, irresponsible, cruel and demeaning for the rest of their lives they are the intervention person when they weren't of sound mind to sign a contract. The only thing funny here is the crass attitude and "experts" promoting themselves while speaking on a mentally ill person they don't know for attention. It's disgusting. This is narcissism

Who in their right mind is listening to this disgusting excuse for a human. He is the biggest con, of course he would find a business that he can BS his way into the lives of the sick and steal from desperate families. This man is a fraud, he is addicted to prostitution and porn. Also has multiple personality disorder and does not pay his taxes. Who this man really is, someone who wants to get rich quick. DO NOT GIVE HIM YOUR MONEY. He is a LIAR. I know first hand.
