I don’t know who has/has not the right to be on this particular track but I have come across motorcyclists riding their trials bikes along footpaths and across moorland where they have no right to be and it f*cks me off in the extreme. This is because there are so few places in the world, let alone the UK, where motor powered vehicles cannot be seen and heard, and people can enjoy nature without having to put up with their intrusive noise and hustle. So with so many other routes where they can travel I feel that the UK’s footpaths can be reserved for feet and nothing other than feet without imposing too many constraints or curtailing the enjoyment of off road drivers/riders.
@bywaysandbikes.
@bywaysandbikes. Ай бұрын
This is a legal byway that is only to be used by motorised vehicles at certain times of the year, so we were just making use of those timings, big signs saying this, she just failed to read the sign correctly, but also didn’t need her attitude when we are out enjoying the countryside too. Especially when I’m polite and say thank you to walkers, cyclists, horse riders etc etc

these are the sorts of walkers that walk 5 miles and act like they have done 50, if they did the 50 they wouldnt care about the dust! they would know to expect you along the trail along with horses and other traffic, her poor husband too, he just wanted her to shut up and keep walking and enjoy herself
@Stobb0
@Stobb0 Ай бұрын
How many miles they have walked has nothing to do with it - nobody gets fewer rights by walking/riding fewer miles or vice versa: either the motorbikes are allowed on the track or they are not and if they are she can’t really complain about dust but if they aren’t then she has every right to confront the rider about why he is there in the first place let aline kicking up dust.

I used to have interesting conversations with walkers whilst mountain biking. Even had one group, who looked around a similar age as this person, walk four abreast in front of me so I couldn't pass on an old drover's road, which is a BOAT, in the Brecon Beacons. The funniest one was a guy berating me for riding down a fairly steep trail when he was walking up it. When I pointed out the trail was specifically built for mountain biking he wasn't quite sure how to react. Now I ride my Africa Twin all over the place in Nova Scotia, on single track and dirt roads, and nobody bothers me. It's great!󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

@Stobb0
@Stobb0 Ай бұрын
@@norfener I believe you mean that it might be taken to be an indication of “her” not “their” sense of entitlement. It is both unfair and illogical to pitch in with an invective against all walkers just because one person was caught out on camera making a mistake and communicating aggressively as a consequence - I have come across plenty of instances where the bikers have been in the wrong in similar circumstances. In my experience “walkers” are all extremely respectful of the rights of landowners (the wider “public” perhaps less so) but also expect their own rights (of access) to be respected. Again, I have come across more instances of landowners apparently deliberately encumbering footpaths than of walkers engaging in wilful damage or impedance of anything. I would respectfully suggest that if you don’t like walkers enjoying their rights of access across your land, perhaps you could consider selling up and buying another plot which has no rights of way across it - you could even create a permissive path across it for motorcycles only… ?
@Stobb0
@Stobb0 Ай бұрын
@@DM-ur8vc ffs footpaths are effing footpaths not effing motorcycle paths - it is in the name - what part of this do you NOT get???
@Stobb0
@Stobb0 Ай бұрын
@@DM-ur8vc No I have not made a general complaint about motorcycles but a specific one, which I have experienced several times, of motorcyclists riding their bikes on footpaths (btw I am a motorcyclist myself but I have never felt the need to take my bikes onto footpaths. But regrettably there are are in my experience, increasing numbers of bikers who think that because they have got a fancy trial bike, they are entitled to ride it anywhere they like off road, and they are well aware to that any sanctions that may exist are ineffectual and expect walkers to just get out if their way). Nor am I referring to ‘footpaths’/BOATs/green lanes/towpaths/w.h.y. as you seem to be trying to infer, only “Footpaths” which are specifically and solely reserved for feet only and not wheels, hooves, bikes, scooters, motorbikes, cars, hovercraft or any other kind of vehicle (Bridleways, BOATs, green lanes are not the same as footpaths as any landowner knows). And no I don’t think “freedom” works only one way - but a walker on a footpath has the right to enjoy the footpath exclusively without the presence of vehicles/horses/cars/ landowners/etc. whereas a motorcyclist may have the right to ride his/her bike on a number of other rights of way which may or may not be shared with other travellers thereupon, but they do not have the right to take their bikes onto footpaths. Similarly a landowner with rights of way on his/her land cannot prevent the public exercising their rights to use them but is entitled to expect the public not to stray from them (except in Scotland of course, where the right to roam is embodied in Scottish Law). Sorry to have to explain all this to you but you do seem to be a bit slow on the uptake. Enough said.
