Cheap, narrow tires, no downforce. That's been the Formula Ford way since its founding in the late 60s.

It's a shame there is no film from Trenton in the Spring (between Sears Point and Indy). IMHO it was the best race of the season and one of the best of the decade. A great 3-way battle between Maro-Al Unser and Lloyd Ruby. Lloyd Ruby made a charge and passed Mario very late in the race for the win

Someone needs to make a new oval that's a replica of Trenton.

Oh baby! This was my first year of 100% engagement with series at age 7. Attended both Milwaukee Mile races that year, still remember them like it was last week. THANK YOU for the HISTORICAL POST

The 1970 Rex Mays Classic and the 1970 Tony Bettenhausen race at Milwaukee has been lost footage and this Season Highlight is the only way to see the race. Is it okay if I can upload the 1970 Rex Mays Classic and the 1970 Tony Bettenhausen 200 on my IanPerez2000 2nd Channel? Thanks, I wanted to ask

I'm not exactly the one to ask since I don't exactly own the rights to this video. :P As far as I'm concerned you can do what you want.

The Dick Wallen Racing films were great to watch ... Simple narration and stimulating music. I saw "Big Al" win Indy and the Hoosier Hundred. I cassette stereo recorded the Hoosier Hundred...played that cheap quality tape till it jammed and broke. Wish I had kept it for future repair. Near the end of the 1970 year I saw Al do a bit of Firestone tire testing at I.M.S. What a sound and sight to watch literally all alone in the first turn grandstand! 1970 was a great year for the U.S.A.C. Champ. He tied Foyt's 1964 year record, if I recall. Great 1970 review of Champ Car racing. There were a lot of great drivers back then...many of them sadly passed away...including the famous Unser brothers.

Thanks for sharing this, my Friend! Wallen produced some quality stuff and you've done well preserving it.

The ticker they had on there periodically spelled it with an O, so that's what I used. And nobody gives enough of a crap for me to edit an almost decade old posting.

Rumors are this airport might close. If so Indy should buy and turn it into a permanent track

viacomsux45 Not happening anytime soon. There have been rumors of the airport closing since the 90s, but any attempt to close it never goes past an initial proposal. Burke Lakefront Airport has all too often proven it's worth in keeping traffic at other area airports(most notably Hopkins) from getting difficult to manage - the benefits of Burke always became apparent on the GP weekend when the temporary diversion of its traffic puts extra strain on other airports. Nothing unmanageable, but just enough to show there's value in keeping the airport around. Two pieces of good news, though; 1) The one time a proposal to close the airport DID get any serious consideration was a proposal to turn it into a permanent racing facility. This was around 2002, I think. 2) There is finally some movement towards a possible revival of this race. An interested title sponsor contacted Roger Penske about promoting the race. Penske declined(to keep his promoter focus on Detroit), but referred them to Mike Lanigan, who currently owns the promotional rights and has said several times that a revival of the race was dependent on getting a title sponsor. We don't yet know who this title sponsor is, but it is said to be a major national company.

Personally I think the new IndyCars are plenty fast enough. Though I won't cry over a touch more speed at Indy.

It is indeed quite odd, but at least we now know that if he never quite reaches great heights as a driver, he's got a good future in the commentary booth! James Hinchcliffe is RAPIDLY becoming my favorite IndyCar driver. (BTW, he was never IRL Rookie of the Year - that name was abolished before he got an IndyCar ride)

@TheMarching110fan It seems more the problem is that Mike Lanigan, who owns the promotional rights, isn't too worried about the Cleveland race. Not as much as he is about Houston, at least. However, Cleveland is a fan, team, and driver favorite so it's likely to come back eventually(economy-dependent). But it'll probably be after a return to Houston and Road America occurs. The proposal of a flat oval/road course doubleheader at Cleveland made a couple years ago was something I'd love to see.

It would be cool to see the IndyCars race here. Edmonton proved they can put on a good show(though it still wasn't as good as Champ Car) and this course is just plain awesome.
