This is supposedly the song that was sung by American troops in the Mexican American war. From this the Mexicans started calling Americans Gringos.

Having everyone else chime in to the chorus ruined the song, in my opinion.

Growing UP Australian for me IS to Be the Swagman and tell the pommie Troopers where to stick their rules! You come a Waltzing Mathilda with me! 😂 No one knows the full official Aussie anthem BUT we ALL know all the verses to "Waltzing Mathilda" and "I still caller Australia Home!" ❤❤❤❤

It is a good recording. But if you think this one's good, find the Sun Records version, recorded in 1954, or maybe 1955. You'll love that version. Guaranteed.

A beautiful old scots irish tune , heard was brought to America by early settlers. Possibly gathered from a Carter from Appalachian people.I meant to capitalize SCOTS/ IRIISH.

Johnny and June Cash came to Australia back in the 1980’s and 1990’s. They often, unannounced went to work in communities. Two incredible people. RIP John and June!

I'm Canadian but fuck Canada. I always wished I was born American because of their amazing artists. Fuck politics and warfare and fuck money and power. ART is what made America GREAT. As easy as it is to dismiss expressive art as a trivial endeavour, there really isn't anything better for human beings to appreciate, is there? We need art to be properly human, money is for freedom and weapons are for power, but to be properly HUMAN requires creative expression as trivial as it seems. Expressive art is what makes being human worthwhile. Not your house and your car, not the quantity of hot young females you either rape or purchase with MONEY. Not your nuclear weapons and you faggoty narcissistic politics backed by nuclear weapons. It's your country's ARTISTS. What else is there really besides your country's childish obsession with power and weapons, expensive products, and the infantile obsession with religion? Great music is all about CREATING and RELATING, the fundamental ultimate experience of consciousness itself. Compared to pathetic loser countries like Canada, creative expression made America GREAT as troubled as you are.

Too many great Johnny Cash songs that never were heard because of narrow-minded Colombia execs chasing fads instead of promoting quality, substance, and special things that were different but good !! Thank you Johnny Cash in 2024!!
