To understand why, it might help to have a stronger grasp on the fundamental principles of Mahayana Buddhism. It is also questionable whether Gautama Buddha delivered the entire contents of the sutta pitaka of the Pali Canon. These matters of historical fact are generally irrelevant when the Buddha himself insisted that the Four Noble Truths were the center of everything he preached. The path of devotion to Amitabha, and rebirth in his Pure Land for the objective of attaining enlightenment there, is one of the 84,000 dharma gates. It also does not mean you can't do other forms of practice.
