@@cammgt3rs370 Nope, I'm not aware of anyone who tracks with these to have any more problems than any other brakes. I run mine with Castrol SRF fluid which I flush every spring and PFC pads. Other than the front calipers turning to a black color, I have not had serious issues. I've had the pads show cracks towards the end of their life but that has nothing to do with the BMW brakes. The rotors will eventually develop cracks but that's the same for any cross drilled rotor.

I was at WGI the week after with PCA in my f80. Great to watch your lines. I’m still on stick passive dampers. Are you happy with the B16 kit? Any temptation to move to some of the other popular track kits (MCS, Nitron, etc)? Considering the B16s for myself as a entry kit while I get more seat time.
@dvas26863 ай бұрын
Thanks for the kind words. Just don't follow my line into the bus stop 🤣 I've been analyzing it and I think I could carry a few more mph through the entire section if I change my entry. I get asked about the B16s a lot, and I have a detailed review somewhere on Bimmerpost. I have to say that they have been fantastic. I have absolutely no temptation to move to one of the boutique brands that you mentioned or to something with two or more adjustability - for HPDE these offer plenty of handling adjustability and have been bullet proof after 6+ years and 80+ track days. If I were to move to a 2/3 way adjustable damper, and I didn't want to do annual rebuilds, I'd get the Bilstein Clubsports but I think that level of adjustability is overkill for most HPDE drivers. Many of the other brands require rebuilds, while these are still as good as new. The Bilstein's offer much better suspension control, the car soaks up bumps, ripples, and wavy pavement much better than the stock suspension and it's also definitely less harsh feeling in most use cases. There's a reason that Porsche uses Bilstein as their OEM supplier.
@M3fahrer3 ай бұрын
Haha. Funny you say that cause bus stop and laces is where I noticed the biggest differences. In bus stop I entered later and didn’t take quite as much curb. Laces I stayed more towards the center and ride the radius. I liked your line in 9 (later entry than me) and 2 (early turn in). Gonna try those next time. B16s seem like great value. Hard to find people you have them. Rebuilds is exactly why I’m hesitant for the boutique brand. That and I know there’s plenty of driver mod left. Just want something to help with the dive on braking and help the rear end on high speed transitions. Back end feels light at the top of the esses both at WGI and VIR.

Great vid and driving, very consistent! Got my B16 fitted on my F82 and taking it to the track tomorrow. You were a big help in my decision to buy them so thank you! I've only driven it once so far but was amazed at how nicely it rode on the road, it's currently on 3 of 10 all round. I'm going to start at 10 all round on track (running 265/35/19 square cup 2 and will aim for about 28psi hot), then drop down accordingly. Do you run the same damper settings front and rear when on square tyres? Really can't wait till tomorrow, the car was on stock adaptive shocks with mperformance HAS kit. The front left spring perch had failed so it effectively had no weight on that wheel. The B16's feel no worse on the road but the car feels much lighter with the small amount of driving I've done so far, no wonder as the old stuff was knackered! Did 2.40 a few weeks ago on the old knackered suspension which is very quick, tyres and brakes are the same so hopefully knock a couple of secs off.
@dvas26864 ай бұрын
Thanks for the kind comments. Yesterday was a fun day and the car ran very well at a pretty good pace - especially for the first day of the season. Congrats on the Bilsteins. I hope they work out for you as well as they have for me. I got them in 2017 and now have over 70 track days on them, attacking curbs, and they are still good to go. They are built like tanks and have never seemed to need a rebuild. I don't necessarily run them the same front and rear. I try to dial them in so that the car is just a little loose. So I typically leave the rears at 8 and soften the front until I just dial out any understeer.
@samellio6 ай бұрын
Great vids and channel 👍👍 Would you mind answering some questions about your Bilstein suspension? Are you still on the same springs and valving that comes with the kit? Does the progressive spring foul the suspension turret and prevent enough camber adjustment? I’m guessing it doesn’t as you have over 3 degrees camber. Do you find the b16 kit ok for track? Not too soft? It looks great. And price wise seems to beat all the other kits on market. Thanks 🙏
@dvas26866 ай бұрын
Thanks for the kind comments. I installed my the Bilstein PSS10 as they came from the factory in 2017 along with Ground Control camber plates and have not touched them since, other than adjusting the stiffness. The springs I received were 515lbs up front and 900 lbs rear and I have not changed them or the valving. I've run up to 3.4 negative camber without issue, which was more than my setup needed and have dialed it back a touch. I think they are as much as one needs for a typical HPDE and are a great value. Built like a tank, there's a reason why Porsche uses Bilstein as an OEM supplier. Over wavy pavement, there is much better control than the stock setup - with the stock suspension the tires tended to bounce out of control in some situations. The Bilsteins remind of the very controlled ride in some of the Porsches I have driven. 30k miles and 80+ track days on the with no issues. Much better control than stock and love the adjustability for track.

@dvas26869 ай бұрын
@cammgt3rs370 Thanks for watching and commenting. Overall, I have to say that the M2 has been very reliable. Just hit over 30k miles over 80+ track events this year. And other than an occasional limp mode because of not enough gas in the tank, all she needed was periodic oil changes and one new set of spark plugs. Pretty bullet proof...until this past summer when I noticed the diff leaking which required a gasket change and then later the OEM plastic charge pipe blew up on a very hot track day, despite being at stock power. Nevertheless, given the amount of track days and heat cycles the car has gone through, I think these two items were relatively minor issues.
@cammgt3rs3709 ай бұрын

@@dvas2686 quite the opposite actually. The video uploaded at LRP was with a replica GTS wing and it made the front end very numb. I didn’t have a very good alignment but was still able to get consistent ~59.5 almost all sessions on heat cycled tires. The last event I was able to do a 58.8 on fresh tires but slightly less aggressive alignment. I also added a replica gt4 lip that really helped with front end balance. Yeah, mostly stock for the world of track cars. Engine is completely untouched, not even bolt-ons, radiator upgrades, nor ECU tuning. Stock OG M2 power, not even M2 competition. Only mods were brakes that can handle track duty, and camber plates / suspension so that tires don't get destroyed in a single day. With regards to tires, did you expect me to drive with snow tires? RE71s are an extreme performance street tire for sure, but they are a daily tire that is seconds behind Hoosiers which themselves are a few seconds slower than real slicks such as Pirelli DHs - both of which are a very common site at these events.

Excellent driving. Usually when I see vids like these pop up, it is mediocre drivers in fast cars. You are a very talented driver extracting the most out of a powerful but heavy street car on street tires, and that is impressive. As someone who has a ton of laps around LRP and owns current NASA ST5 lap record, including a personal best 57.7 running unrestriced in my 240hp E36 M3 on Hoosier R7's, I commend you. Well done. LRP requires talent and balls to go fast.
@dvas26862 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the unsolicited very kind words. It's even more meaningful coming from someone who apparently is very fast around LRP themselves and understands the challenges of the course and equipment - 57s in a relatively low powered E36 M3 is mighty impressive. I have a lot of laps around this very short course and I want to think that I am close - if not at - the true limit of the car with this particular setup and tires. But the back of my brain tries to stay conscious that there is always someone that will be faster in the same equipment and therefore there is still plenty of space to keep learning and improving. I guess that's where the challenge and fun lies.
