God she was terrific. Must've been '89 or 90 when this came out. So much passion. I was 15 or so. What I love also about her is no one in the music business could classify her style. She wasn't country, not strictly rock, not country-rock, not folk music etc....and that's beautiful. A very different style all her own that she created.

I was a young music critic for a regional newspaper when this unknown female singer came to a tiny venue for a gig. She was with Island Records, which was interesting, but there had been problems with the album, rejected by the label, producer fired, looked bad. I went to see her anyway, in case there was a story and because that was my job. Wow. I remember clearly when she belted out this song. Her voice is HUGE; you have to see her live to get the full impact. We all just stood there exchanging glances and going, WTF? Doesn't happen often, but from Day One, there was never any doubt she was going to be a big deal. Deserved success.
