She is much better. At the time of the ball chasing accident her hind legs were completely paralyzed. Now unless you're looking for it, everything sorta works back there. Otherwise she could not have performed her circus spin act.

Still go the Lake George every year and bring our boat. My wife loves to sit in the front of our bow rider as we cruise the lake. Used to scuba dive in my teens and a wet suit was needed for the thermocline layers. Your video reminded me of the lake.

How warm does the lake get in the summer?? Just curious how long(months?) you can swim comfortably in the summer
@calvertthedad
@calvertthedad 2 ай бұрын
There's a whole bunch of ifs in answering this. It depends on your tolerance for cold water and where you try to go swimming. As a general rule of thumb July and August are swimmable anywhere you choose to go. This year was a little weird. We had super unusual weather in late May, a big hot spell and no wind. The temperature at our dock at the mouth of Northwest Bay went from the mid 50s (hypothermia territory) to a tolerable 73. It didn't last long. The wind picked up and it was back to the 50s. Some spots can get pretty toasty in early August. We saw 83 at Shelving Rock Bay. The first two weeks of September can stay in the 70s if the weather cooperates. Swimming in October can be done depending on your tolerance for mid 60s water.

@calvertthedad lake george is not bad in the winter just need either firewood or heat How is your cherry tomato cherryr plant? Did it finally die off? Mine were green never turned red. 😂 I'm in catskill ny chilly here.

The grape tomato plant that I featured in my video produced heavily during September and then ran out of red tomatoes. But right then it threw out a slew of new flowers. Unfortunately we had to prep the deck for the winter and I had to pull the whole thing apart and leave it in the compost heap.

How far up Northwest Bay Brook can you take a boat up? The channel markers make it look like it's fairly safe to navigate up to a certain point. I've always wanted to take the boat up the brook.
@calvertthedad
@calvertthedad 3 ай бұрын
As with all things boating, navigability depends on the draft of your boat and your seamanship, and possibly your daring. Past that pinch point at the top of Northwest Bay on Lake George where it becomes Northwest Bay Creek, there are channel markers farther upstream than I've dared to go. It's a little over a mile to the canoe and Kayak launch site off Route 9N up near the so-called Bolton Quarry. I believe at one point in time they allowed small motor boats to launch there, but not anymore. I've launched a canoe from there, and it was deep enough to get all the way to Lake George proper. How far up you want to go with a power boat, is up to you. Get a good map, so you know which branch of the swamp/creek you're trying go on. Or skip the power boat, and launch a canoe or kayak, and leave your worries behind.

According to exterminators who make KZbin videos for underground nests, a mixture of water and Dawn will kill them. A half cup in a 5 gallon pail of water. Of course, you have to get the water into the hole. I saw people rig up simple hand pumping mechanisms so that they could be a safer distance away. I don’t know if I saw a numerical estmate of how many met their demise after one application, but it seemed highly effective.
@calvertthedad

Sounds like it might work. The nest is now extinct. A plug of steel wool finished the job.

Thanks for watching! But I feel compelled to keep the naming stuff in the correct order...even though this can get confusing. It's the Calvertthedad Channel, the sub genre is "An Adirondack Summer". And I really stretched and decided to do a quilting piece. No boats, no forests...just the "North Country Quilter" If you're not confused...I might be!
