It's the old causeway, shut to everyday traffic when the replacement road was built across the moor. When the moor floods, like it has now and leaving the main road impassible, they open the causeway for limited traffic movements. Currently, it is the only access in and out of Cookham, since Cookham Bridge is closed for refurbishment, whilst Lower Cookham Road and Sutton Road that cross Widbrook Moor are also closed for flooding.

@jamescamplin Thank you for that amazing video. Me and the misses really want to visit a restaurant in the high street, would you recommend parking up by the station and walking into Cookham rather than driving across the cause way?

I'm a bit confused is the old pool under the floor? wasn't the learner pool where the hole in the floor is?
@jamescamplin
@jamescamplin Жыл бұрын
Almost. The hole in the floor is where the changing rooms were, with the learner pool just in front. Before the supports were put in, they must have dug out the shallow parts to match the deep end.

Grenfell Park has wonderful memories for me as a child, of course this was in the 1960's, before we had so many wierdos lurking about (druggies, drunks, perverts) and more police . My mother and I used to come into Maidenhead on the Thames Valeey red bus (No 17 I think it was back then) from Burchetts Green into Maidenhead to go here. I also went here with my schoolfriends when I was at the Convent of The Nativity. I am astonished at what they want to do here, we don't have enough green spaces now, so why this lovely park, so sad it's come to this, Mind you, I can't blame parents for not letting kids go into parks anymore because of what I mentioned earlier, so sad, whatever happened to Park Keepers who used to eep "undesirables" out once upon a time ???

PLEASE HELP US SAVE OUR GREEN SPACE, this was left to the residents of Maidenhead by Lord Grenfell, he left this legacy to the residents of Maidenhead many many years ago. So everyone could enjoy recreational open space. Yet now against what was left to our community, the local Council want to build high rise flats, and more accommodation (even though new accommodation has been built elsewhere in our town and is not occupied) all this to the detriment of the local residents and more importantly to our wildlife that also currently reside here! Please oppose this build, it’s not right.

This wonderful green space was only discovered during Lockdown when local people who weren’t Golfers were allowed to walk around this magic woodland. We heard the birds for the first time, I had lived in shoppenhangers road for 7 years, but the traffic had always choked up the road. The silence and beauty of the song birds, and my clean windows and in polluted air was so refreshing. . I hope that this will remain. Every morning when I see the parents walking the children to the local nursery as well as to the junior school, with the traffic congestion, I hope that their lungs won’t suffer in the future if this green space is built upon.
