On the topic of toxic experiences within the community. I was playing ranked ladder for a little bit, but every other game I played (For about 30 to 40 games) someone basically told me to kms, and called me a shit player for outsmarting them. I don't have the greatest macro, but I can develop gameplans and execute them on the fly decently well for my elo. Friendly games are just not a thing, and it killed my motivation to continue to put time into ranked. A bunch of people in the community seem to have fragile egos

Another great episode. Appreciate you calling out the nasty behaviour in the community, and in the elites in particular. It's no wonder a community manager would stay away the cesspool on the official forums. People need to realize it's a game. And if they're not having fun, why are they engaging? Nice to see a high level player like Shake speaking some sense and compassion.

Heya, a wild Tilanus appears! I just wanted to drop by and say that I've probably listened to every AoE3 podcast of you guys and genuinely enjoyed all of them. It's a really fun and ironically refreshing format for AoE3 in a world where there's probably too many pods. I do agree that the 'video part' of the community still primarily focuses a lot on the traditional competitive aspects of the game, although - as you correctly concluded - the game has a lot more to offer than that. From a purely personal perspective I love the non-meta plays and historical interpretations the most and I think that really goes to Mr. V's point that there's actually a ton of stuff as well as unique qualities in the game that don't get talked about enough - or even at all.

Keep it up boys! Podcasts are a totally unused content space for aoe3, if u can somehow pump these out more frequently I think ur sitting on a big winner!

It's a really complicated, unintuitive game. That there are years of meta consistency a new player for Russia (for example) can find tutorials and a huge backlog of relevant/casted vids. Quality of life changes would go all the way. Loved the talk on alternative game modes. Variety is why I play, hope the game is finished with 30 some playable civs. Would like every civ to have revolt options.

I fondly remember having a nice conversation with Shake about sweden and stats in a previous patch, using a datascience tool. When I said the nerf was technically deserved out of nowhere I see SHUT THE FUCK UP DUNAMAI ! Love it. If he disagrees, you'll know about it ! Also no-idle-tc is from Kenoki. Great podcast, as always.

I would love improvements to the replay tool, being able rewind or "drag" the timeline would be nice. Sometimes I would love to be able to draw out what I should have done in any situatuation, but that's propobly going a little far. Then again I would settle for it not crashing all the time...

Low elo is whatever elo the person im arguing with is tbh Fr thanks big lion for speaking. For the record, my yapping on the disconnect is moreso that aoe2 pros realize when some civs are too easy/oppressive like otto (or franks at times) it kills the playerbase and less scrubs= less future pros or supporters. Thats the crux that while i agree getting gud is important, if a civ is an apm check not a strategy check its going to long term damage an rts playerbase

Speaking about quality of life upgrades (34:00), enhancing social interaction within the game is crucial for fostering a vibrant and connected community. Currently, players are faced with numerous UI bugs that hinder seamless communication and interaction, resulting in a multiplayer experience that feels lonely, isolated, and anti-social. Players hardly meet each other, which stands in stark contrast to the legacy version of the game, which had a robust and social online interface through ESO. I wish they would pay more attention to the offgame UI/layout. Add medals, rank titles, let us view other players' home cities, add actual online status (no Steam status) and improve the whispering system.

Low elo is below 1300 for me. and 1300-1700 is mid elo. Above that is high. That is how I've seen it.
