Please be very careful if you decide to score the boot. I have seen a few scored leading edges due to scoring too deep. Blending and ultra sound thickness inspection was required.

@@kendallevans4079 so what is your "modern" solution to this so called "problem"? It works just fine. Otherwise it wouldn't be on thousands of planes. I'm an aircraft mechanic and pilot, and this "antiquated" system works perfectly fine.

I'm not a pilot but this process seems VERY technique dependent. Seriously, it seems like this isn't a real process, more of by the seat of your pants/whatever works! What if you make a mistake or misalignment? Like wallpaper, do you constantly pull it back off and try again? Bubbles?
