I honestly thought up until Part 4 that Lofty just emotionally manipulated Wonka into building that pipe to help pay off his debt too the Oompa Loompa people, a thousand fold is quite the debt too pay off no matter who you ask; and the secret stealing still happened, but by less skilled candy makers, with such verosity that Wonka and many others just assumed that it was the original chocolate cartel members out for revenge, which resulted in Wonka locking himself in the factory and the isolation driving him mad. Lofty is a craft bastard, but he does seem to grow fond of Wonka a little bit when we see him.

one smoking gun against this theory though. in the movie, theres a brief moment where one of the TV's shows old footage of Wilford as an extremely young child, aka much younger than charlie bucket ever was post chocolate factory. as there was no reason for his life to be documented much less filmed before the events of the chocolate factory which drove him into stardom (charlie was an extremely poor and extremely average child), theres just no way that Wilford is charlie. otherwise, this footage would simply not exist.

The daughter that has visions and her dad with the drugs is kind of like Charlie and his grandpa... The grandpa was laying down for a long time beforehand, the girl goes on to continue the story in the end.. they're taking forbidden candy along the way but give it back/didn't take it selfishly in the end..

When Jessie says "I won't go back in the dark" that hits so much harder once your an adult and have some horror under your belt.

The first movie solves the premise in Grandpa Joe's story in the Gene Wilder movie.. His recipies were stolen and he closed the factory to visitors, became a hermit in his factory, and 20 years of solitude would drive anyone Wonka.. ;) .. enough said on that point..

I can see an odd connection between trains and dystopian or cyberpunk aesthetics. I started to get really into dystopian aesthetics and such when I was traveling on an Amtrak.

I've noticed that cults hang on to people who are emotionally vulnerable; a very rational person would just leave but some people FEEL like they can't. I'm not the type of person to get sucked in a toxic cult but I feel bad for those who are.
