The systematic sexual abuse of boys and girls in in the catholic church happens for several reasons. It's to develop and recruit the next generation of predators for the continuance of the 'power and control' of the catholic church. A victim will either remain broken throughout their lives and submit and therefore be easily manipulated within the church or they join the church and become the next generation of priest predators. It's their systematic method of maintaining power and control at all costs.

I apologize for the long comment. In the Catholic Church, there are about 466,000 clergy, or ordained ministers, including bishops, deacons, and priests. There are about 725,000 worldwide religious, including both men and women. There have been roughly 5,300 religious who were identified as abusers. Some believe that number is too low. That there are many more who haven't been identified. Even if that number should be doubled or tripled, there are over 700,000 religious who are doing the right thing. As horrible as it has been for the victims, over 97% of the religious within the Catholic Church are living their religious life properly and taking their vows seriously. If you count just the Catholic religious in the United States and the number who have been identified as abusers, the percentage is closer to 5%. That means 95% of the religious are doing the right thing. When you read reports about abuse in the Church and watch these type of videos (and they are many out there), it gives you the impression that every religious person within the Catholic Church are guilty of the same crime or a suspect of covering it up. That is simply not the case. And the sexual abuse issue is not strictly a Catholic problem, although that seems to be the main headlines. It's a Protestant (all other religions not Catholic) problem as well. Some estimates exist on the total instances of sexual abuse within Protestant Christian churches. One estimate comes from three of the largest faith-based insurance companies that insure nearly 160,000 churches. These three faith-based insurance companies reported 7,095 insurance claims of sexual abuse by clerical members, church employees, congregation members, or others involved within these settings from 1987 to 2007. These reports indicate an average of 300 claims of sexual abuse per year. As a Catholic, I find myself looking at every Catholic religious person wondering if they are a predator. And I hate feeling that way. I have to remind myself that 95% - 97% of those folks are NOT sexual predators. I realize that it doesn't matter to the victims what percent of the religious are sexual predators, or that all denominations are guilty of this horrific crime, it is a horrible ordeal for them to have to go through and they deserve justice. And I hate that the reputation of a church that can trace it's roots back to Jesus and His original Apostles (or any church for that matter) have been severly damaged because of the evil 5%. Job 28:11 says God "brings hidden things to light." For us humans it doesn't always feel like it is in a timely manner, but He always exposes evil.
@imawake80523 күн бұрын
You can't say 95% are doing the right thing. The 95% are the problem. They move them around, they stay silent, they intimidate, they fund. The church forces victims into litigation and then uses settlement caps and NDAs to PR their way out of it. They have facilities in Wyoming, France, and Africa where they shuffle the predators away from the law. They refuse to hand over internal documents that could help convict. If the problem was just some bad apples it would be more manageable. I highly recommend looking up some documentaries on the rat roads or the general backing of fascist governments, the baby selling scandal in Spain, the mass grave at a Scottish orphanage, the physical abuse of the deaf in Canada, or participation in the Rwandian genocide and then trying to look at the church again. I could go on but I think I made the point. Nobody wants to believe they support evil and everyone always wants to believe that evil will be cartoonishly obvious.

Pope Francis said, “Clericalism is when the priests and other clergy in the church start to think they are more important and powerful than everyone else. Displeased, he said it was like a disease, like a leprosy that is really hurting the church. He told church leaders, especially those working in the Vatican to get rid of the bad habits and temptations like feeling indispensable, wanting to be rich, living a double life, and even forgetting about God.” The pyramid of hierarchical authority, and the ordination of gay men is but the mighty beast of power that has taken over in the church that Jesus Christ established. God will cleanse His temple as He did when He went up to Jerusalem and told them to stop abusing and misusing ”My Father’s house.” There are so many non free thinking clericalised lay people in the catholic church now, that it has become harder to demand changes to bring back e.g. the altar rails that were ripped out of our churches removing this reverence and more efficient way of receiving God on our tongues, and to put Christ back where He belongs in our churches so that we may once again have access to visit Him in unlocked churches. God protect us and Your church...

Thank you all for sharing this terrible wrong done to you; I too, do not believe in the lies and religious institutions but in the love of Jesus and our Creator. With my faith and trust in God I will continue helping vulnerable and visiting incarcerated. I was told once that couples not married in the church did not have the graces of sacraments to be sponsors for baptism; and to this I reply to the pastor: “where were the graces of my sacraments in my few years of marriage when I endured all kinds of abuse and horrible raping??!” He had nothing to say. I pray for all the victims, and like it is stated here, if those on the religious power starting with pope, etc...would come to the media and kneel honestly and sorrowful. But they don’t want to lose the ignorant followers that blindly believe that “the abuse from priests to innocent children is the work of the devil, acting in those priests. However, I tell them, no, no, no!!! They have free will and are educated people, they cannot blame the devil for their disgusting actions. If this was the case, no serial killers would be executed or sent to life sentence “because the devil made me do ir” 😢😢😢thank you again for sharing more information about all this mess made in the name of God and celebration of the Eucharist.

No need to say it's done in protestant churches too. It's done in secular society, and is very very very prevalent in Islam. It's actually sanctioned there especially among the Shia. That doesn't make it right. That's why the catholic church is a heretical church.

I have been a devout Roman Catholic since 1961, but I renounced my Roman Catholic faith in 2022 for two chief reasons: one, the Roman Catholic faith is not aligned with the Bible; and two, I was spiritually liberated by the book I read entitled "Altar of Secrets: Sex, Politics, and Money in the Philippine Catholic Church" by Aries C. Rufo. I am now a born again Christian . . . much better!

Yesterday the pope was accused on Twitter by Vigano that he "used to operate like McCarrick" used to with seminarians. This is supposed to have been told to Vigano by a former seminarian about what pope francis was like when the seminarian was a novice. No other details were mentioned. It sounds like it would have had to have been at a Jesuit Seminary. I'm just guessing.

I hope you all know that you are bringing healing to many just by speaking on this. Does anyone have recommendations for victim outreach? I need spiritual healing and guidance that I can trust. I'm so ready to serve God, I'm so ready to heal and move on. I want my light back, I can't keep living like this. I can't keep living in fear. People really need to understand that there never was an actual separation between church and state. All intertwined. I wish that governmental agencies would get the same amount of scrutiny the Catholic church gets. It is NOT just the Catholic church, it is in EVERY sect of religion. I dont hate the church, I WANT to serve God. I love Jesus. I need my light back but I've been fucked with my entire life and I'm scared to trust anyone. I'm actually convinced that I've been cursed since literal birth. My mother told me she was told to never return to the Catholic church because she was 16 and unwed and pregnant. I'm convinced we were put on some sort of list.... I know it sounds crazy, it FEELS crazy! I just dont see how this many bad things can happen to one person. It literally feels like there is this push to get me to k*ll myself. 😢 I've even had people with credentials tell me that im NOT crazy that what I'm saying actually does happen and it really isn't that far fetched. I try to find peace in that. God is the only reason I'm alive, I truly believe that! I should be dead, several times over. I have a life story, most probably wouldn't believe. 😢 God has to be THE only explanation of me being alive.

The photo of Hitler shaking the hand of a Cleric that was shown as Thomas Doyle speaks of ‘Brown Shirt Priests’ is the Evangelical Lutheran Bishop Ludwig Müller of the Reich Church - Reichkirsh. Thomas Doyle has this all wrong! Roman Catholics repeatedly voted down Nazi candidates in the last free elections held in the German Weimar Republic. The ‘Brown Synod’ and the subsequent Reich Church Clergy weren’t Roman Catholic priests, they were Evangelical Lutheran Clergy that collaborated with the Nazi Regime. The Protestant clergy were neither expelled nor ‘Liaised’ from their Protestant Churches after the Nazi defeat, but upon their recanting their Nazi past they were integrated into the Evangelical Lutheran Church. Reichkirsh Bishop Müller took his own life as the Red Army advanced on Berlin in 1945.

I was Catholic my entire life. In August of 2019, I made a conscious decision to leave the church because of all its monumental hypocrisy. I feel closer to Jesus now than I ever did as a "staunch Catholic." This program is magnificent because it speaks the truth. Nothing here is exaggerated or falsified. (When I was in a Trappist monastery in 2009, a Bavarian priest sexually harrassed me to no end. When I took this to the Abbott, who was very well educated, he told me that "maybe the priest is just stupid and didn't know what he was doing." As a fully heterosexual man, I laughed at the Abbott's idiocy and left the monastery forever the next day.)

JohnPaul II is being misrepresented concerning his teaching on sexuality and clerical celibacy. Nowhere does he suggest that clerical celibacy leads to a higher form of sexual satisfaction. Chastity is a sublimation of sexuality for a greater good and it is required of everyone not just priests. It is the only healthy and normal use of human sexuality diametrically opposed to selfish use of our sexuality. Married couples understand this too because chastity is also part of married life where sex is sublimated for raising a family. Chastity is the only form of sexuality that is worthy of human dignity. Any other use of sexuality leads to abuse and degradation of human beings including rape and abortions.

I am still amazed at how naive people are. No one has cornered the market on temptation and Evil. Any group, especially a corporate one, will leverage its power to protect itself, manufacturing an ideology to support its ideas and actions. Call it social pathology or original sin. Perhaps if we were willing to recognize this reality, we could waylay some of the damage. Wouldn't that be better than living within an orbit of opposition, in constant rotation around people from whom we have pledged to escape?

I was a NJ seminarian who met McCarrick in 1978 when he was an Auxiliary Bishop in NY. I was with a friend in a religious order. My friend said I'd be okay. He said McCarrick 'loved seminarians' but we were safe because we were not studying for New York Archdiocese. This was in 1978. This all was a looming disaster and I chose to be Protestant.

Randy Engel, in her magisterial 5-volume, "Rite of Sodomy", dissected this scandal in detail--even the McCarrick affair well-nigh a decade before McCarrick became a household name. How any hierarch can possibly claim ignorance of McCarrick's double-life in the face of this erudite lay person's detailed research and knowledge defies explanation. It is risible in the extreme to purport that a lay person can garner greater information on McCarrick's recondite sexual misconduct than any sitting prelate would've been privy to.
