There is a raised groove that is supposed to be in between those bushings that’s where your grease port is and the bushings are supposed to be driven from each side of quick attach flush to each side of the raised edge so that there is a small gap between the bushings

Kudzu is a Scourge here in the south. Some idiot thought it was a good idea to introduce this invasive plant into this county and now it's choking out the native plants and destroying the habits. Some people just won't leave well enough a lone!

I think it may be part of a very old gasifier. They would fill it with chunks of wood from the top and then release the ashes and keep filling it from the top. Gasifiers used to be used on gas engines when fuel was scarce during the wars.
