Ha! Google lists artemas as an alt/indie singer I took it upon myself to name his style, and I called it "dark neon" because it gives me late 80s and early 2000s vibes at the same time. Good to see I wasn't too far off the mark. I'm still sticking with Dark neon, not dark r&b.
@corbinadlerАй бұрын
hey good on you for searching for it yourself! i also don’t know how to categorize him, but dark neon sounds pretty spot on 😤🤝
@ahabsbaneАй бұрын
@@corbinadler thanks for responding! Def not throwing shade at you, but the feeling I get when I listen to Artemas gives me 1984 and 2009 at the same time so that's why I gave it that name. Dark R&B is equally accurate, I just don't get the R&B vibe. Maybe somebody else will find the perfect genre description for him later, I just felt alt/indie was a disservice to Artemas. Thanks for the interaction! ❤️✌️

I discovered this album at the lowest point of my life, my mum and I were the tightest and she passed away. I'm a professional musician myself and I didn't play any music for weeks which is not normal behavior for me. THEN I stumbled on "Candy" and I was like, "What is this? I need to play this on the guitar right now, I need to comprehend what's going on in this tune", I first fell in love with that song then the whole album. His music has been a blooming safe place for me, what an inspiring artist. Mk.gee is a very special musician, looking foward to see him live.

My experience with this album was listening to a handful of songs, thinking hey this reminds me of Absolutely by Dijon (my favorite album) and then getting my mind blown when I realized Mk.gee was the guitarist from that album. So I was on board right away, but I also didn't love the album off the bat. A lot of the songs had too little substance. I think listening to it multiple times allowed me to hear what the substance really was, most of it being guitar related. I'd say its a subtle album that takes a minute to get used to. I will say, I still don't love New Low and Breakthespell. Or maybe I just don't get them yet :) On a side note: I think forcing yourself to understand or like something multiplies how much you like it once you do. That's what Absolutely was for me. I didn't get it. It was insanely boring and slow. But I kept listening to it and honestly it changed my preferred taste in music
@corbinadler3 ай бұрын
couldn’t have said this better myself! i also found dijon first was blown away knowing about mkgee and him. i also agree with your album take! its a very subtle album at its core. i came around to New Low, but i can’t say i enjoy BreakTheSpell just yet. & I agree with your last point too! i’ve found i need to dive into something multiple times until i find the love i have for it

The Bear S3:E9 I heard "Are You Looking Up" And immediately stopped the show, googled the artist, and did a 4 hour deep dive into Mk.gee. I found the live video first and could not stop looking for more awesome music. This has led me to many of his collaborators, like Dijon and Matt Champion. I thought fresh new music was dead. What's difficult at first is how complex this album actually is. It's a weird nostalgic but never heard before sound. There are so many elements that sound familiar but frustratingly you can't define it. You then finally accept that it's something completely new/evolved, and that's when the full appreciation kicks in. I adore this record. It's the kinda record I'm gonna make my kids listen to
