Bought an RV with problems. Problems like these. Underway with the project 🙄 Nice to see I'm not alone in this battle.

The dog barking from the treehouse is the only surprising part of the video! 😂 the rest is actually all too familiar. I recently was gifted a camper. 😢 The Elephant I should call her. A big white elephant.

It boggles my mind that RV manufacturers go with OSB for roofs instead of plywood, just to save in total maybe $100 on a vehicle that sells new for $20k+

Hey buddy Great video for years I repaired campus and I haven't touched one in 5 years you just refresh my memory big time I want to say something about one of the tools you using the fine tool multi-tool when you got to the air conditioning unit and you needed to take that gasket off you just use an old blade a new blade you with a ground that thing right off and as far as the butyl tape too that holds down the all the metal trim works excellent for that too Good luck I look to see forward you more videos

I'm about to do the same thing. My 5th wheel 30' is a 2001. I am wondering what you do to replace the wall and ceiling panels. Mine are 1/8 thickness can find it anywhere. So frustrating. Good job by the way, very informative. Thanks

I have a small 2017 Keystone Hideout I've had for 7 years. I have taken it to a dealer for roof leaf checks and repairs several times. Now they tell me I have a rotted wood portion in the front driver section. Telling me I need a whole new roof and they won't repair just the rotted section - to the tune of $4300. This is a 21 ft camper that's only worth about $7000. Another repair place told me also that's it all or nothing. I don't understand why just a small section can't be repaired. I'm 76 and can't do the work myself. What would happen if I coated it with Henry's. It's not currently leaking.

I will soon be starting ripping out water damage on a 20ft featherlight trailer, it has roof and wall damage. I’m thinking I should first do the wall since the wall hold up the roof. I guess it will be a learning experience

Panicking and googling and came across your video. We have lived in our trailer since 2021 (brand new 2021 trailer) and the AC is leaking down onto the slide out and somehow has filled out slideout ceiling with water..The beams are rotting and we're just distraught. But this made me feel a bit better..Knowing it can be done ourselves. Thank you for the comfort at 2am.

I'm curious. Why a lot of people are using duct tape for the corner edge's before installing the membrane? is it because it is cheap? I'm about to install a TPO roof tomorrow and had thought about using gorilla tape which I purchased. But after cleaning up all my edges and new plywood. I tried a test piece and the gorilla tape didn't stick to the fresh smooth plywood well at all. I also bought dicor seal tite corner tape to do the front vertical corner molding after the roof is done. I tried a small test piece on the roof wood to front metal siding termination area, and it stuck to both materials and won't come off. seams like a great option. Before I choose which one to go with. I thought I'd ask a couple regular rv DIY'rs.
@remodelyourrv3 ай бұрын
Yep...just to protect the membrane on the edges. I would go with what you can get to stick. Best of luck.

Just wondering what you use to clean the roof from debris since the old plywood is so sticky
@remodelyourrv3 ай бұрын
I typically start by using a wide-blade scraper or putty knife to gently remove any large chunks of debris or old adhesive stuck to the plywood. This helps to get rid of the bulk of the material without damaging the wood underneath.

how long did this whole process take you. hrs wise??
@remodelyourrv4 ай бұрын
I couldn't tell you how much time it took for the entire project. It seemed like a lot. The time investment would have been much better if I had not had to work in small chunks of time. I spent a lot of time and energy dragging and putting up tools. Just rebuilding the water damage on the roof and replacing all of that material probably took 25-30 hrs. Again, there was a lot of time wasted dragging out and putting away tools.

What if your roof is coming off in super small pieces. My trailer is 40+ years old and I think the roof has never been replaced just some kind of painted sealer on top of it. Now I’m fixing water damage and replacing the roof but it’s so difficult to come off and keeps breaking. Do I have to scrape it or sand it to get it to the bare wood? Or the stuff that’s not coming up do I just put the new roof on top?
@remodelyourrv4 ай бұрын
Based on what I'm imagining in my mind, I would take it all the way down to the bare wood. You can then confirm there's no water damage under there and start with a clean slate putting the new roof back on.

I'm into a nice little repair of my own currently. lots of fun.. ( not really ) The travel trailer I'm working on has the same aluminum siding. I'm a welder and fabricator, among many other. and as I was removing the bad wood studs from the inside of the trailer and had rusted staples protruding from the siding that I snipped them off flush and thought, how will I reattach the siding to the new studs. I came up with a nice crafty option. I designed a simple bracket and are currently making a bunch of them. If you are doing these kinds of renovations often. Let me know if you might be interested in them. Also. The multitool is an awesome tool. I'm so glad I bought one a while back. RV's are not built to last. and a good example as well others is how they seal up the undercarriage with a tarp material. they know there will be leaks, and the water has to go somewhere. why not turn the undercarriage into a pond. because that's what mine did. The water had nowhere to go other than down and to just keep building up and saturating the entire under deck. stupid idea if you ask me ( or a smart one? ) I cut it all out after the water was done draining for a day. I plan to do something different. Anyhow. I commend you for your dedication. it can be very overwhelming. I know, because even though I know how to repair them, I quit several times. Appreciate the video's.

Thank you for your encouragement. It's amazing how poorly these things are built. I'm intrigued by your bracket idea and will reach out if I'm in need. Thanks again.
