This short film reminds me of the music video "Suffering" by Jess Lee. A woman living in a filthy apartment with maggots and cockroaches. It was one of the most memorable pieces of media I've seen back in 2011. Though I do recall thinking that her spiraling mental health was caused by her broken relationship. Here, I sense it's a bit more complicated than that. What I'm gathering here - perhaps I'm self-projecting - the aftermath of severe ADHD. As women are "expected" to do housework in societal norm, there's rejection when they don't. It's a tragic circumstance, especially for many ADHD women, and they're married to partners who refuse to understand their issues. It leads to depression, which further leads to lack of self-care.

A heartbreaking slice of life. She encapsulates and represents so much about what many are actively going through. I see bits and pieces from people I've met, and there's nuances that's probably instantly recognisable to the Tamil community. I know of a B40 resident who had to bring her car battery up to her apartment, because it would get stolen every night. It's a powerful, necessary documentation on the parts of Malaysian life that many overlook. I'm sure there was probably more scenes that was cut for time, but the moments of long silence and reflection is extremely crucial. These are real people. Films aren't just for entertainment - it can be a mouthpiece for those who have no time or energy to speak out, and to assure some people that they're not alone in their struggle.

I would never have survived in his position. Some of us succeed because of a stronger financial foundation in the first place, being able to take more risks and afford more mistakes. Most people aren't as fortunate or well-connected. And if you have mental illness, you can't even afford it, and govt hospitals take ages for an appointment. The rumination, PTSD-like symptom, is real. It's also ironic that we always blame the economy for the loss of jobs or low wages, but the average person still suffers in any economy. Today we have mass industry layoffs, while CEOs get rewarded. The average worker, one who maintains the machine, is just a cog, struggling to pay rent, struggling to keep up with family expectations.
