Indeed, he didn't id for every QSO but often. Usually difficult to get through the pileups but made the trip pretty quickly this time 😅

@@Rene_Voortwist Yes perhaps. In my experience most people during contests like these will call at 30-40 wpm and people won't match their wpm to yours for one QSO. I was running of very little sleep here and was struggling very much with copying much more than usual.

@@MM0OPXFieldRadio yes indeed using K1EL's WKUSB-AF, it has sidetone generation and everything in it. (Just because I like to change the tone a bit here and there).

@StianEklund Thanks. I wasn't aware of that version. Kanga is the official seller in the UK but dont show stock. On main site its apparently being redesigned. I will keep an eye on it.

@@MM0OPXFieldRadio it's not really necessary the sidetone of the Kenwood TS-590SG is great as well, there are a lot of cheaper options if you just need a winkeyer or similar. Even the k3ng based winkeyer emulated variants are pretty decent

I gotta admit I struggle with these calls.. they're so darned long. I did correct his call later. Very little sleep makes it extremely difficult to copy some of these calls :(

@@StianEklund yeah but I also wondered by the desire of people work in contest with such a ugly call signs... I mean what's the point.. the strangest one I can remember is like PC20STAYSAFE =))))

Mostly for my own sake tbh. Got bigger pileups than I anticipated, my copy skills have been tanking recently 😆Some good propagation to NA on 15m on Saturday as well, didn't put that many hours into this contest.

@@StianEklund I forgot all about this contest 🤦🏻‍♂️ sounds like you had great pileups es did very well. Did you ever perfect the dark skin on n1mm? Btw there’s a noise gate in obs. I have to use it to remove that low end hiss on recordings.

@@JayN4GO Unfortunately a noise gate probably won't work in this case because the noise is mostly noticeable whenever I'm keying myself. This is actually connected to a remoterig and the remoterig itself has slight noise on it :/ this is with an isolation transformer even between the remoterig and my soundcard input. I'm sure it can be mitigated / improved by changing the gain levels across audio devices perhaps. It's a pain in the butt nevertheless.

Lol yeah one of the more embarrassing moments for me, TA2D calling me on 40m, he was struggling to get my serial probably for various reasons. I then finally get him to copy and then only to mess up the serial I receive from him. Such a painful thing to watch, especially knowing that if I hadn't uploaded the logs I could have gone back and changed the logs and then uploaded them. Would that be cheating? Sort of? I uploaded all the videos here _after_ I submitted the logs for the contest, though. It is what it is :P

It really depends on the aurora and the conditions, sometimes there can be auroral Es mixed with the backscatter makes SSB a lot easier, or if the signals are stronger it's a little easier although you need to really slow down the speech. Weaker aurora signals are very difficult to copy. Might just be my 3 element yagi :P

Definitely! I messed something up though because the background of the info box is messed up.. I think I was able to fix it yesterday. There's some weird behavior when you change operators even though the skin is the same (you can have different skins per operator). I can try to send you the skin file if you want but I'd prefer to send you something that doesn't have the wonky problems seen in the video.

The number of participants in contests have been increasing, for WPX the entry statistics are readily available: www.cqwpx.com/stats.htm Therefor I think I could argue the opposite, however, yes, the SO2R is the only way to win the single op category these days, however many contests have many categories and overlays; in my eyes it's still worth competing in them. From my location & latitude it's more or less impossible to win anyways because propagation is vastly different than from mainland Europe. 73 DE LB1TI

@@StianEklund took me a few days as well. I haven’t gotten them on 20 yet. The op moves a lot more than usual though. He may go up 2k after a Tu.

I'm not very familiar with Japanese stations maybe except JE6RPM. Is JA3YBK a large contest station?

In this specific case I have ARCP connected via USB and N1MM connected to the RS232 (serial) port in the back of the radio. It's also possible to use VSPE (virtual serial port emulator by Eterlogic) to split the serial port but in general ARCP handles this poorly.

Hi, I use esphome with esp32's and bme280 sensors. The sensor is mounted right next to the radios exhaust fans so it's not precisely the transistor temp but hopefully close

There are several ways, facebook.com/N1MMLogger/photos/a.597411463661818/1331811166888507/?type=3 I believe I used a theme but customized it. It's a bit difficult as N1MM isn't fully customizable and some parts don't really work all that well with a dark theme. Hopefully this helps.

Keep in mind my antenna at the time was indoors.. Back in 2018 the signals from the middle east was very very strong at times in the early afternoons. I was listening for a while before calling and your signal was peaking s9 +10 to 20dB at times. Happy New year Amir!
