i never liked this movie.....after 10 commandments and Ben Hur this movie El Cid was loose and sloppy and overacted and the action dragged and dragged.....give me Robin Hood any day

I saw this film in the theater on wide screen when it came out. I was only ten and was deeply impressed. I definitely need to rewatch, it's been 63 years. This shows Heston at his best. Fun fact: at the New York World's Fair in 1964, the sword of El Cid was on display at the Spanish pavilion.

I would pay to watch this movie again remastered in 4K on the big screen! No social agenda crap and rapid fire cuts, just glorious technicolour, great set and costume design and strong men and beautiful women!

l watched this film when l was 10 and even then l thought 'this isn't 11th century armour - more like 2 or 3 centuries later'.
