Oh gosh I cant remember, I did work that out using the instruction booklet, unfortunately I sent mine back for a refund as the digits were smaller than my old yellow one that’s 30 years old. On the new one the digits only become large in the final minute and only when using the count down option.

Slippery newspaper? My chick has splayed leg and curling toes. When she was two days old we did the stray method with hairue worked well but now that's she older 5 months it came back. Actually eaer then that, she's 5 months now. I finally found a hospital that will see her but I have to wait another month. Bumming out. I've been adding nutritional yeast to her food for her nerves. Hoping that will help. Her name is Peggy

This brought back memories. Thanks for posting. I was on the 97H expedition there. I imagine Coyhaique has changed a lot since then. I helped build a gymnasium building at a girls' orphanage in town. Anyone know if it's still there?
@mortoneventer Жыл бұрын
You can walk through Coyhaique on google earth, some one said there’s a lot more tarmac roads now and the foot bridge over the river has gone.
@Jim_Manthorpe-hiking Жыл бұрын
@@mortoneventer Yes, I had a look on google maps and tried to find the orphange. I think I found it but not sure. Definitely more tarmac roads and modern buildings there now. I couldn't pinpoint exactly where the raleigh base was. Somewhere over the river. I remember walking up that steep bank!

@@Jim_Manthorpe-hiking yes I wasn’t sure when I looked, the Arial shots aren’t great quality either, I will ask on the Facebook group, there’s a Facebook group for our expedition.

Great slide show, there must be huge amounts of Raleigh Chile info hiding out there given it's 18 - 20 year history of Expeditions in the region. I was lucky to take part in 33 of those expeditions and I am still here living just up the road (track!!) from the original Base Camp at El Verdin. Stay safe out there during these troubled Covid-19 times.

Fantastic to hear that your love of Chile kept you there Graham- I often think of returning to live in Chile- I spent a year travelling around SA after Raleigh and Chile was my favourite country , hablo bastante bien Castillano ahora tambien- que milagro ! I presume you married there? what work did you end up doing if you don't mind my curiosity Graham ?- Wyre Davies was on our 89F expedition , often see him on BBC News he was their South American correspondent for many years so I am always reminded of Patagonia when I see him ,

Hi Stella I was on the expedition 89F , 12 months earlier our team Los Locos built the original cabin! It looks like you had to modify it - presumably the beach flooded after we left ? As it was a geologically tilting lake we assumed the cabin side of the lake with its beach was being pushed UP by the tectonic plates and as such the beach if anything would only get wider (we had seen sunken trees on the other side of the lake)- You would have seen that we had cut down all the big trees just behind the cabin but the smaller scrub was such hard wood with impossible roots to cut and dig out we gave up and had to build the cabin on the beach thinking it would not flood- but you say the water rose 8ft in 24 hours nearby so I guess the beach had disappeared after we left - I presume you had to put in a new floor ? I will see if I can find you to say hi Trevor S. Good job on a very difficult modification btw. ! shame you didn't show a photo of the cabin as you had found it before you started . Pasar lo bien Trev
@mortoneventer4 жыл бұрын
Sorry only just seen this, yes we had to raise the floor , fab to read about the original building of the hut, am sure the others might have some other photos, am still in touch occasionally with some of our group, so many happy memories from those few months, amazing times.
@63noddy4 жыл бұрын
@@mortoneventer I think the cabin was destroyed by a later expedition as it was seen to be an intrusion in the natural ecosystem. I was running Raleigh South down in Torres del Paine during this expedition so missed much of the fun in Coyhaique.
@mortoneventer4 жыл бұрын
Neil Rowland doesn’t surprise me it was quite a large cabin, the upright logs on the corners were prob a bit over kill for the strength required to hold it up . !!
@zen70823 жыл бұрын
@@mortoneventer The majority of the local straight trees seemed to be the large trees , so it was built inside out where usually the large structure is the frame with light cladding- here the frame was light and cladding 'shrek sized' , frame had to be thin so we could get our 6 inch nails through to the outer logs (at least that was our best practical design solution upon arrival !)
@zen70823 жыл бұрын
@@63noddy We had first tried to cover our waterproof plastic roofing with sand to hide its awful plastic look in the landscape so my first photos showed it looking much less intrusive in the landscape. unfortunately too many people then stood on the roof and it started to leak badly so we had no choice but to put on the horrendous blue tarp which could probably be seen from space ! We didnt want to make the same mistake twice by covering in sand though nor did we have time to do so ! - shame it is no more- I was planning to retire there soon :)
