Do you know when the causeway will be open for public fishing?
@SanibelMan11 күн бұрын
sadly going to be a long time brother. won't happen until the beaches are done and parks are back in place, which won't be for another few years likely

I launched from a private beach nearby the Lighthouse. But you can launch from the Lighthouse beach and make the same trip!

Is there a public kayak launch on the south end of Sanibel?
@SanibelManАй бұрын
other than from the beach, no. There's a few public beaches you can go to- Tarpon Bay Road, Gulfside city park are a few you can go to!

Do ever change up the retrieve? I normally see you pop/jig the paddletail back to the kayak?
@SanibelManАй бұрын
I do! Depends on the area I'm fishing and the type of fish I'm going after. The shrimp jig/paddletail game is my favorite right now!

What brand of Reel are you willing to dunk in saltwater? I have Battle II by Penn and wouldn't think of it. However, I've been using them for four years in WI and FL and there's never been any intrusion. I lost 4 of my "saltwater" reels that I kept in our shed to Ian. Sure glad I haul my Penns back-and-forth.
@SanibelManАй бұрын
I've probably only ever done that one other time, unless they're salt protected its not worth it. Mine is a live bottom reel, I made sure to pour water on it immediately and have been consistent with spraying it with reel spray as well. What you are doing with your penns is the way to go!

Sanibel man! Great videos. What's your setup advice for fishing from the beach on Sanibel? I've only fished in rivers and ponds in the midwest but would love to learn!
@SanibelManАй бұрын
thank you so much!! Beach fishing can get super complicated, but I like to simplify it with either fishing with artificial lures (like the shrimp lure from the video or paddle tails) or live shrimp on a bobber. At least to start! Hope this helps!!

I enjoy your videos and look forward to more of them when I'm back next January. I appreciate your monologue that's not filled with "bro" and "dude" and swearing. Just the facts. speaking facts, what is the brand of the white paddletail that you're using? Are you throwing a 1/4 ounce or 1/8 ounce jig head? What Hook do you like for cut bait? Thanks.
@SanibelMan2 ай бұрын
Thank you so much!!! I use the DOA cal shad 3 inch paddle tail with a 1/8 ounce jig head. And for cut bait, I've been using a mutu light circle hook 4/0 size. Hope this helps!!!
@michaelcollins73632 ай бұрын
I have had good luck with that same tail. Most of the time I'm using Slayer SST 3 1/2 inch. They Wiggle better than most with a slow retrieve when reviewed by Salt Strong. They are also scented. I have yet to see them in a store so I order them direct.

Hi love the videos im coming to Sanibel the end of April. Can you tell me what the beach fishing should be like ? fly fishing for snook and tarpon any tips would be greatly appreciated , many thanks
@SanibelMan2 ай бұрын
Thank you so much!! Beach fishing on Sanibel is really fun but can be really challenging depending on the weather. Tarpon should be back in full swing by the time you are here and you might need some live/cut bait to catch them from the beach around here. But snook you can definitely catch from the beach with a fly! Any of the beaches along the south side of the island or near the lighthouse will give you a shot to catch some snook. Hope this helps and good luck!!!

Heading down in a couple weeks. Do you fish Tarpon Bay much? Looking for advice on where to start.
@SanibelMan3 ай бұрын
That's awesome! And I do! I'd recommend getting live shrimp before going (if you are staying on Sanibel you can get some from Whitney's Bait + Tackle). Tarpon Bay has a lot of grass flats in the center of the bay, which will give you a chance at good sized trout. If you toss the shrimp along the mangroves, then you have a shot for snapper, snook, redfish, etc. Hope that helps!
