I was unaware that the motor had failed but I was aware that the switch and capacitor were missing. What is the root cause of the failure? Overheating, shorted out, or bearing problems? I would love to upcycle that motor. FYI that new motor is not a motor that is used for Mainstays fans made by Jiangmen Keye. Edit: After further watching it appears to be locked up. Also, the new motor appears to be ball bearings, so it should last you many many years.

Yo, happy birthday Steve! I saw your latest acquisitions and they are really cool! I think this is the most in-depth video I’ve ever seen of one of these hassock fans on KZbin. It looks like they are using parts from their much older table fans, I’ll be curious to see if that slide switch is similar to one in my antique GEs. Also, I would say that plug actually is not original, I think these had molded plugs from the factory, nonetheless the one that’s on there is pretty cool, if I were you, I would at least save it. Looking forward to future videos on these!

Reverse engineer it, start at the motor and work backwards as to what is required to make a fan turn, keep it simple, remove as much as possible, think plug in and it atarts turning with no switches etc. that's what id do.

2 things you can also try on the old one: 1) Air Filter. They get plugged easily on these machines. 2) Muffler. I've had a few plugged on this style due to the filter getting plugged and running rich. A quick look at the spark plug might show some carbon build up too. Given they're the same engines, they are interchangeable so might be some easy quick testing. If the muffler is plugged, you can just heat it up with a torch to help break down the build up.
