This was so helpful! I have a barred rock that seems like it’s impacted but it’s more in her throat. She sits and doesn’t move around a lot. I’ve tried massaging but that doesn’t seem to be doing anything. Any suggestions?

She may have something lodged in her throat, and that would he something a vet should look at. There is no easy, comfortable for your hen, way to look at it. If you can't find a vet that would see her, you could try offering her a small amount of olive oil in some water, If she drinks it, if it could unlodge it.

Great question, sunflower seeds are great, don't worry, mine ate a ton of millet, which is like little balls, and she ate a Lot, the snow had started to melt and she was enjoying what the birds had pushed out, all winter long last year....

What would you suggest if her crop is hard like a rock and not fluid is in it. The vet told me to place a catheter tube and syringe fluids in. I am not brave enough to do this. What would you do. She is having spasms. It’s going on a week and she hasn’t passed it. I was trying home remedies with no success. So the vet put her on antibiotics and anti fungals. I waiting to hear back from them too. Thank you!

My 7 mth old hen, about a week ago, started to display she had hurt her legs and crouches when she walks. No bumble foot, no vent gleet, no prolapse vent and not egg bound as she is still laying. I've been keeping her in a crate like yours for the last 6 days and for about 2 hrs a day let her go out with her flock because she cries and cries. Well, last night and all day today I decided to keep her in because she is still not able to walk normal. She stands upright but she can not walk normal. Not sure what happened. One day she was fine the next can't walk or hardly at all. Sadly, we don't have a livestock or farm animal vet in my area or a vet who treats chickens. It doesn't appear to be anything broken but that doesn't mean it's not. Or maybe a torn muscle. I've been giving her Arnica 30C meltaway pellets. It's a Homeopathic Med. Supposed to help with pain and discomfort, swelling, minor injuries, falls and reduces symptoms of bruising. I am in hopes it helps. She is still eating and drinking normal. No diarrhea. Nothing oozing. I'm at a loss. I would be very grateful if you have any other suggestions. Thanks!

Hello! I would suggest giving her a good dose of vitamins - poultry cell is a great one and can be given in her water- she might be lacking Sometimes, a vitamin deficiency can cause lameness to happen. Another school of thought could be she has an egg high in the oviduct- this can cause pressure and pinch one or both nerves that run to the legs... does she have anytime say- after laying the Egg for the day, become more active?? * also reduce the amount of treats given, for a short time to see if it makes a difference, just feed egg layer pellets or crumbles and lots of fresh water/ and or mixed with poultry cell

@@askavettech2057 She's still laying her eggs with no issue that I can tell. And she's no more active after as she was prior to laying the egg. She is a little chubby. She was the biggest one in her flock. I will look for the vitamins you suggest and give to her. She could of fell off her ramp and hurt her legs as far as I know.

Oh wow what a cool fresh produce sale place😁💜I have not craved a pumpkin before, is there a special knife or normal knife is alright for cutting the pumpkin?😁💜Aww so awesome to see the chickens & turkeys enjoying the pumpkins😁💜they help ya make Jack O lanterns too😂💜
@askavettech2057
@askavettech2057 16 күн бұрын
Well they make jack o lanter carving kits, but just use a knife in my kitchen, one with some kinda teeth on it, like a serrated knife works best and go in a sawing type movement to cut into the pumpkin. If your just going to cut the surface, using a paring knife is what I used:) Be careful tho, some pumpkins are tough skinned and take a bit of force to cut through. Please share your pumpkins carved with me:)

Hello, I have noticed recently at roost time my flock being extra loud, pecking each other, pushing each other off roost. Coop is 13×10 6 roost bars 2- 12ft 3- 10ft 1- 5ft I use hemp bedding deep litter method. I haven't seen mites/lices. I have 33 birds in this coop 3 rooster 29 hens. I do have several girls molting. Is this the reason for their aggressive behavior? They do not act this way during the day. 2 of the hens have gotten so upset they've moved to youngster flock in my other coop. Anyway is there anything I can do? Or do I just have to wait out these sassy grumpy birds?¿??? Any advice is appreciated. ❤❤❤❤
@askavettech2057
@askavettech2057 22 күн бұрын
Well, they have plenty of room- so no worries there! They are habit forming creatures just like you and I....and as the season are changing the way/ and places they roost are probably shifting... what I mean that is, in the summer months they like to have space between them while roosting due to the warm temps, and now that the seasons are shifting, and they are molting (making them all a little poker until the feathers grow back) They are trying to be closer together for warmth. Some hens don't enjoy that and will be grumpy ladies about it - they will come around. I would just let them work it out. They will. If you notice extremely feather picking, obviously, you might need to remove that hen from that coop, if possible, or put her in the nesting box at night to avoid the picking. Also, they can squabble over social hierarchy - meaning some of your younger hens might be challenging the older gals for their spot on the roost.. I love this question, and I will be making another video on it! Thanks for asking! I have a bunch of chicken content, so subscribe so you can see it all!!

Hello, how many minutes should a 1 wk old puppy feed on moma dog? and would the time change gradually as weeks come by?
@askavettech2057
@askavettech2057 23 күн бұрын
Hello- It depends on the breed of the dog, and how big they will be. But as a general rule, 15-20 mins and should he nursing 8-10 times a day. As they grow and mom's milk supply increases, this time could changes yes, usually they will nurse the same amount of time, but as they grow and are being offered puppy food, they will nurse less and less

What if the chicken has a pale comb? Can you do this then?
@askavettech2057
@askavettech2057 23 күн бұрын
If the comb is pale, unfortunately means that the chicken is already under massive stress, if you don't do it then she will die, but if you do it- she could be stressed and also die/ or not.... kind of 50/50 on survival. That is a fine line. At this point I would recommend seeking veterinary care.

Hello I know you won’t most likely reply but I hope you will, I’m a kid so don’t feel confident in what I’m doing at all, so my chicken wisteria dosent have a massive crop, and I had cleared her sour crop a few days before hand and isolated her for a bit before letting her go back out, now her crop is small and rather firm than what I’m used too, I don’t know though

Hello! I try to reply to all comments:) AWESOME name for a chicken, by the way!! So there might be something more inside there, such as grass wrapped in a ball or just stuff that is stuck.... Has she been pooping ok? If so, I'd let her back in with the flock, but keep an eye on her, make sure your offering good grit, and oyster shells, so she can use those to break up what is in there. Another thought it could be inflammation (or swelling) so maybe dont massage it for a couple days **unless she starts showing signs of not feeling well again. Then start treatment back over again. I'm so proud of you for working hard to fix the issues! If you need me again either reply here, or you can email me at [email protected] Also make sure you subscribe so you can see all my chicken content, I have some good stuff there:)
