Hello, do you know solution for this one The fluid displacement technique is used to find the porosity of a certain core sample. The sample is first coated with paraffin (density of 0.9 g/cm3) and submerged in a beaker filled with water (density 1 g/cm3), where the volume of water before and after submerging the sample is recorded. Then, the paraffin is removed, the sample is saturated with water and then weighed. The following information is given for the sample: - Dry weight of the core = 140.2 g - Weight of the core with paraffin = 145.6 g - Initial volume in the beaker = 242.5 cm3 - Final volume in the beaker = 318.0 cm3 - Weight of the core saturated with water = 156.8 g Bulk volume Porosity Density matrix Pore volume Thank you I. Advance

Hello buddy, do you know if I need to gently wipe the material's surface to remove excess of water?
@petrohow
@petrohow Жыл бұрын
Yes, you should gently wipe the material. We are only interested in the volume filling the pores to measure the porosity.

Thanks for the demonstration. Nevertheless for pratical representaion we should considere the entire spherical particules (as found in nature). Thus the total cubic volume will be (4r)^3 = 64r^3 , from which we subtract 8 spheres (in the 3D dimensions representation) of a total of volume 8.(3/4).π.r^3. Finally we caculate 64r^3 minus 8.(3/4).π.r^3 and we get the same result : π/6
