Lovely father and son team work , is there a way to tell the difference between a inner track rod to outer as I’ve seen videos of mistaking where the travel is and replacing the wrong part. I’m sure you know more than me about this Martin you are a very knowledgeable person. Love all your videos not 1 bad word to say about any of you 💜🥳

On a motorbike the volume of brake fliud in the reservoir is directly relevant to the volume of consumable material on the brake pads. So when worn pads are replaced, the level should always return to the full mark. Provided, of course, that it was on the full mark beforehand. And as Martin says,as long as no one's come along and thought it's low and requires a top up. I'm not sure if that's true on cars as one fluid reservoir normally feed all 4 brakes ,which would total quite a lot of pad material.

Hooraah! At last someone who agrees that all that buttering up with copper grease on the brake pads is not necessary and indeed not advised.

These cheap Chinese diesel heaters are copies of much more expensive Webasto and Ebersbacher units. Both companies have always offered variants for use with other fuels, including petrol (gasoline). This has virtually no lubrication properties, yet they use the same dosing pump, just altering the stroke rate to suit the different combustion characteristics of the different fuel. So, running on low lubricant fuels should not have any detrimental effects on the pumps. For many years, members of the Irish boating community have been running their diesel heaters on Kerosene, because there tend to be far fewer fuel quality issues with that than with the diesel available from waterside pumps. Over here, thanks to tax rates, Kerosene is slightly more expensive than diesel for heating systems. Road diesel is a different matter…

Back in the day on the older Vauxhalls it was a known problem that if you didn’t release the cap there was a high probability that you would flip the cylinder rubbers. Isn’t it funny that through all the years copper slip has been used on pads yet new cars are fitted dry. Another informative video for those not in the know. Well done lads 👍

The discs need changed too look at the lip top and bottom on the disc means your pads will have uneven ware plus the disc should not be that shiny

I changed my pads once.........ONCE!!! 😂😂 it was a pain. I tried it a second time on my next car, 8 years ago, in September 98°f 90% humidity. Bolts would not move. After 30 minutes, I said F it. 2 days later pulled into a shop, 45 minutes later it was done.

I would like to thank this gentleman for posting this. My ford focus estate car had a new battery installed and afterwards I realised my radio wasn't working and asking for a code. It wasn't in the handbook or in the glove compartment. I followed this and in 2 minutes I had the radio up and running! All of the sites I had previously googled wanted money to obtain the code. So thank you once again.

In the USA 🇺🇸 kerosene is not cheaper. Last year kerosene was roughly 14.00 dollars US versus 3.00 dollars plus US. In retrospect, a cheap 120.00 plus diesel heater with cheaper diesel ( especially off-road diesel) is the way to go.

I love to see the jobs you do on the mowers and stuff. Interesting and informative, but I can never understand why you quote metric AND imperial sizes for fastener heads. I'd always say if it's a metric hex use a metric socket/tool whatever. If it's imperial use an imperial tool. Most people tinkering with bikes or mowers would surely have both metric and imperial sockets & spanners. I know I do,and it can often ruin the head if an incorrectly fitted socket (particularly a 12 point socket)is used. You're American audience would certainly have imperial - and metric tools would be a must due to most fixtures,screws & fasteners being metric over there I'd of thought. Most manufacturers distribute stuff around the world in metric dimensions s. I suppose if one DOES only have one type of tool set ,then giving both Metric and Imp sizes is helpful. But mostly I'd find the so called equivalent to be a slack fit resulting in a possible stripped bolt or screw head scenario. Glad you got that mower sorted,anyway. Thanks for the tips on buying up a nackerered mower and restoring- becaus that's something I might have a go at in the future now I've retired. Best regards, Roger (the dirt warrior.)

What you probably don't realise with these Briggs and Stratton engines is that they come with 2 different bolt sizes. Some are imperial and some are metric, the USA models come with the imperial as you probably know and the european are metric, however, I have had ones in the UK with both imperial and metric bolts so I only say this with these briggs and stratton engines. I don't say use a 13 mm if you don't have a 1/2" I say it as they come with either metric and imperial sizes. Hope that clears it up for you.

@@retrorestore Thanks a lot for a clear reply ,Martin . That's cleared that up & I'm pleased that I asked now. That's a strange set up,isn't it? I think Hardley Davidson 's are a bit the same. Probably all out sourced parts are metric while genuine Harley parts are imperial. Nothing wrong with imperial dimensions- I love the mints that are made that way!

Hello sir, awesome video as usual. Just a question, I have a Zafira mk1(based on this astra as you probably know) the pump makes noise, however nothing is coming out of the nozzle. Both not by the front and back. I tried to unclog the nozzles with a needle but it does not work. Also the fluid level does not drop. Any idea on what the issue could be? Also, will it be easier to access the pips/pumps etc with removing the front bumper? Please let me know! Keep up the great work! Kind regards,
@retrorestore6 күн бұрын
Its probably sludge in the bottom of the washer bottle where the pump sits in the bottle. Its a common thing, you'll need to remove the bottle and flush it out. or try sticking a hose on there and try and flush out the sludge.

I'm in south eastern US. I use #2 heating oil, $4.98US, in my Chinese diesel heaters. It's not the same as kerosene. It's also a lot more expensive than standard auto diesel, $3.68US, but not as expensive as kerosene, $6.89US. I am only running this because my mother had her house converted from an oil furnace to a modern HVAC system. She gave me the heating oil (150-175 gallons US) to haul away the old system and tank. I would have done it for her anyway. I have two heaters set up in an old 1967 12ft x 60ft mobile home. The #2 heating oil burns very clean compared to diesel. I have not tried kerosene, to expensive. Once I run out of #2 heating oil, I will re-tune my heaters for auto diesel. The factory tune was great for the #2 heating oil, but a bit to rich for auto diesel that I used for first start up and test run. We do have cheaper off road diesel, but it's becoming very hard to find outside of construction companies that have a fuel delivery set up byway of a semi truck. I hope this info is helpful to someone somewhere.
