Looking back on this is interesting because in 2016 we didn’t know about the history of the daleks sets from B&m or the other ones released before that I’m not sure what they were. It would be cool if he ever decides to revisit this video format

When I was younger I really didn't like the Williams era at all (aside Pirate Planet and Fang Rock). I probably fell into that wing of the fandom you mention about two thirds of the way through. However, I've been rewatching the show on iplayer and I've warmed to a lot of it. I'm also more conscious now of the challenges Williams faced; Mary Whitehouse, budget constraints, the contrast of Hollywood and even Tom Baker himself. This video essay has also been very informative. Williams was doing a difficult job well; with Fang Rock, Image of the Fendahl and Stones of Blood he showed that he could do the gothic horror, whilst also assembling episodes that were distinctive to his own tenure. Granted the likes of Underworld, Creature from the Pit and Meglos are pretty rubbish, but every show runner has some duds, plus he's got City of Death under his belt. I recently watched the reconstruction of Shada and really enjoyed it. It's genuinely sad he did not get to sign off with it being broadcast.

So, regarding the spotted Ood tie lads, last time I heard it was rumoured to be a Thomas Nash, the same brand as the Idiots lantern one. However, I've never seen any evidence from the costume designer herself confirming this. Other possible brands are Boden and another more obscure one that I found last year. We believe last year I found the accurate tie fabric in pink with brown spots, instead of navy, same silk type and pattern alignment. However, as it was a commonly used fabric for the time, we are unsure if it's the correct brand. I since sent the tie off to the states, but it's unlikely it will ever be replicated accurately due to the way the silk is and it not being Navy base. Great Podcast as ever lads!

Watched The Daleks in colour with my 4 year old curious about how long it would keep his attention (and of course made a video about it for my channel)… he made 45 mins before getting distracted by something else. Which I thought was quite impressive so they did a good job in the cut down edit to make it pacey and appealing to younger viewers.
@TaylordVision2 ай бұрын
Wow! That’s definitely impressive for 60s television to hold his attention for that long - the bold bright colours probably help, it’s a real treat for the eyes.

I became a diehard fan in 1988, so when they showed the two Doctor Who Movies on a cable channel overnight in the early 90s I was excited. Campy movies for sure, but I still enjoyed them.

I have three memories of where I started the show, but I don’t know in what order they happened: buying a Destiny of the Daleks DVD randomly one day, having a Series 2 single release (with The Christmas Invasion, New Earth & Tooth and Claw on it) and watching Series 3/4 as they aired, but Matt Smith is my first proper Doctor due to never jelling with David Tennant to this day. Over time, I’ve become more of a Classic Who “stan” and prefer those stories/characters/music to Nu Who. I’d defend any William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy story, along with any written by Steven Moffat (minus his sexualisation of 11 in Series 7B towards Clara and making Series 9 “Clara Who”) as for my favourite or one I’d defend, there’s a handful ranging from every era I like so it’s difficult to choose.
@TaylordVision3 ай бұрын
@@tokublwhovian Definitely difficult to choose just one! We found it really hard for this. Great memories!

Oh now I feel old, very clearly remember watching all of series one going out on transmission. My first memory of Doctor Who is what I later found out was the BBC two repeat of Genesis of the Daleks from 2000 and I remember The Story of Doctor Who documentary from 2003.

Just a thought bubble here. Not a critism, just a consumers perspective. I enjoy this guys thoughts, and he’s easy to listen to or watch. I just don’t have the time or patience to listen to an hour podcast. Which I thinking the standard length. This is a ‘me’ issue. It would be great if, there was a highlight video of the podcast, maybe on a month or even 3 month delay, so the OG upload gets its view count, but folks like me who struggle with anything more than 15 minutes can still get a little love from the channel. 🤣 I can’t seem to watch/listen to these sort of uploads in chunks, I never comeback to them. Apologies for not making a comment directly related to your podcast topics. 💛🖖

You know? I'm from Chile, most people don't know or recognize the show, and the reason I discovered Doctor Who was because I was trying to cheat on an English exam. And since then 10 years have passed... I discovered a show capable of showing me love, sadness, passion, hatred and friendship. I have never regretted discovering Doctor Who, and I don't think I will. Thank you for reminding me that.

I don't normally comment but it'd bug me if I didn't tell you where you heard that line from Empire of Death before the ep came out. So from what I can see it was in a tv magazine that came out around a month ago (no idea what tv magazine) There's a little section of it where RTD gives a quote from every episode of the season and the quote from Empire of Death is exactly what you remember. It has Mel's name next to it so I imagine you saw that somewhere, read it in her voice, forgot about it and remembered it closer to the ep releasing. I found it on r/doctorwho, somebody took a picture of it and shared it there, didn't seem to get much response so I can't imagine many people saw it. Hope that clears up the confusion of where you saw that, love the podcast btw

I hope RTD can convince Peter and Jenna to change their minds about coming back so they can do a tales of the Tardis of Hell Bent.

Interesting point - perhaps because Russell doesn’t want to reference Big Finish too much. I can understand that given that it’s a side of the show that would require additional reading/listening

Rogue was a lot of fun although I’m not sure I am particularly fond of the romance on paper even though the chemistry sold it. The Shalka Doctor appearance was very cheeky but I find myself thinking about it more than the story I watched which isn’t great because I love Scream of the Shalka. Finally Ncuti and Millie are finally front and centre but I feel like I was only starting to get a grip on them as team this week, it feels like we’ve only just got out first gear, this season needed more episodes for them to bed in.
@TaylordVision4 ай бұрын
The shorter season definitely makes it feel like we’re wrapping up just as we’ve only got started, for sure - we’d only be halfway through by this point for any other! Hopefully it’ll just mean that they really hit their stride from the off with season 2.
@guygrist44364 ай бұрын
Yes especially when I grew up watching tv shows with 20-26 episode seasons, this feels really short.
