love this reading! this is one of my favorite poems, ever; ada limón is a fantastic writer. some of the words in this video are wrong- it should be "it could have been a showy blow hole" and "how real hunger has a real taste".

Magnificent composition, drawing on all YYM's many beautifully ingested heritages, and an original piece of transcendent beauty; making near reference to 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' as well as a suggestion of the Quatuor pour la fin du temps. The sideways gloomy modulations to modal near minor seem to owe something to Walton, and suggest the crisis of the late 1930s. There is a drone-like, almost raga like, backing track, I think, to which YYM adds melismas all the way from the alto register to something (at the end) deliberately avian.
