i live in somerset and there used to be a local pub DJ who would only play wurzels and Bob Marley songs for the entire night, there'd be more foot tapping than actual dancing but everyone would be singing along, happy days.

When Noel Edmonds was doing the chart rundown for that week, it was kind of obvious which record would be at No 1, as loud choruses of "OOH AR! OOH AR!" followed each announcement of the last few titles.

My uncle, Frank Wood, was manager at Norridge Farm back in the 1950s. I have fond memories of holidays there. Walks up Cley Hill and being shown round a big house by a tall posh man I now realise was Lord Bath and Longleat!

I remember a Mr & Mrs Wood that were the house keeper / groundsman for Norridge House in the late 70s / early 80s. My mum and Stepfather replaced them in December 1982 and were there until December 2001. My grandparents lived and worked on the farm from 1975 until around the late 90s. They eventually moved away in the spring of 2001. I drive past the farm regularly and still miss my childhood stomping ground of the 1980s. It will always be the place I call home.

Combine harvester was one of my favourite songs as a kid growing up in the 90s. I had a "combination songs" cassette tape that had it on and I remember asking for it to be played at one of my birthday party discos when I was 7-8 years old. I'm now 30 years old and still love it. I've only just recently discovered other songs by the wurzels and love them too. Also only recently read online that Adge Cutler died so young, so sad! My Dad is also a (retired) musician and used to be in a rock band called Agnes Strange. He also has the nickname Adge (Alan). He thinks combine harvester is great! Such a catchy tune!

A catchy tune indeed, though I should point out that it was written by Melanie Safka; the Wurzels put their own words to it.

I remember seeing Adge & the Wurzels at Downend Cricket Club, Bristol in 1969:- fantastic! I'd like to mention that the Wurzels "Combine Harvester" may have been inspired by Irishman Brendan Grace's hit, but was actually a parody of Melanie's, 1971 song "Brand new Key," which she wrote.
@WurzelsFan

Pete Budd. erstwhile of The Wurzels - exuding more soul and heart at 79-odd years old than 98% of 'artists' in their 20s. You can't study this, it' comes from a life. The man has lived, his sound is born of the life he has lived, and believe me, when a man has that much soul in him, he has a lot more life in him. Watch it again, listen to him, feel him - he's as real as it gets kids. Do what you're doing Pete, the world needs 'real' right now, and you are real - in spades.

It sounds like you might be a brass player yourself. Hello guys, could you please take care of repairing the missing narration parts: starting right after the title and also in between the interviews. Narration is only in the beginning (before the titles) and in the end (after the last interview). Thanks!

Just have a closer look on you tube and you´ll find out about, what I was talking about: Narration is only in the beginning (before the titles) and in the end (after the last interview). I am the author and director of this film - I know. I don´t mind at all that you uploaded it ....why not - the documentary is 23 years old now, but something must have been turned wrong by converting it or you had a copy of a copy....
@WurzelsFan
@WurzelsFan 4 жыл бұрын
Peter Heppa still not sure what you are referring to?? I have the original on VHS tape and have compared different segments and it is the same as this digital conversion.
@theauthor1941
@theauthor1941 4 жыл бұрын
Hello Michael, If your VHS is identical to the digital version then you might have got a faulty VHS, where the audio tracks are somehow mixed incorrectly or maybe your VHS Player does not scan all tracks - but this would be unusual: can´t tell you why tracks should not have been mixed for a commercial version - maybe you can check about stereo/mono scan or something like that on your VHS Player / Recorder. It´s just quite disappointing as in these parts of the narration, I am referring to, there is the most important information, which is been missing now - it´s about 6 min. of basic information as introduction to the phenomenon after the titles underlaid with music. In this you tube version there is only one sentence after the titles (at around 2:00 min) : "In the mid seventies single circles begin to appear in Southern England." But after that sentence the narration should continue up to the 1st interview with George Wingfield. Then there is always a narration bridge between the interview parts....
@WurzelsFan
@WurzelsFan 4 жыл бұрын
Peter Heppa I cant ever remember my VHS being any different to this digital version, so not really sure what you say is missing.
