This was wonderful! Thank you! Like you, I spent decades serving an art form that required my evenings and weekends--in my case, it was my dance journalism. Retirement has given me back my freedom to explore the world of birds!

My association with the word Audubon is with a group and magazine and not with the man. The name is distinctive enough that it's worth taking ownership of the meaning. This has been done with other word, for example in decades past the word queer was an offensive slur but people changed the meaning, they took control of the word and how the offensive meaning is lost to time.

The film planted a seed for my interest, it was my spark. I always had a feeder and a Sibley's Guide, but after watching the film I knew I'd have to get a pair of binoculars and get out birding for Spring migration. It took years, but I eventually ordered a pair of bins and the first bird I was able to view was a Yellow-rumped Warbler, and I instantly became an avid birder. Big thanks for this reunion video and of course a huge thanks for the original film and everyone involved, life changing.

Impressive use of data. I had thought the Carolina Parakeet had gone extinct when the speciman at the Cincinnati zoo died in 1919. I did not know that it may have lingered in Florida after that.

a goldfinch smacked into my glass door and was lying stunned on my balcony. My first instinct was to not touch it because in general, it's usually not a good idea to interfere with wildlife. But, because I have seen hawks scoop up birds near my apartment and I have a doggy door to the balcony I decided to pick it up and put it in an empty planter pot with a paper towel over it. At first, it was making a sad slow chirping noise, then it got quiet and started to close its eyes. My son was super concerned for it. I too thought it was lights out for the little bird, but 5 min later I went to check on him and I must have startled him because he flew out of that pot like a bat out of hell. I was so relieved I didn't have to have a bird funeral, especially since we just had a funeral for my son's betta. I gotta remember to keep the screen door shut.

There may not be one primary cause of the demise of this bird. The advent of European ancestry and what they brought with them might be something to consider.
@jeanninecathcart6272 жыл бұрын
Yeah racist, everything's our fault. Wonder why New world horses went extinct until the Europeans re-introduced them, Native Americans probably ate them.

I witnessed a devastating crash and Spiritual loss of this Divine lovely female cardinal as she collided with my window. I attempted mild compressions on her delicate body but to no avail she couldn’t be revived. Do you have any suggestions how I could of acted quicker to try to save her? It was so tragic to witness once again the loss of this Divine gorgeous Spiritual messenger of flight.

This lady does good work, but ridiculous to wear a paper mask (air, & germ molecules easily pass through & around it), esp when outdoors and alone! Gullible ppl just do what the govt tells them, & don't think for themselves, or seek any alternate info than the msm.

Found a stunned bird on my front porch this morning-- it's currently in the dark in a box in my bathroom hopefully calming down. I hope he turns out okay-- if he's not okay in an hour or so I'll call a rehabber
@miriamsb14 жыл бұрын
I was also wondering how long the rest time should be. And should you put any food in the bag?
@nycbirdalliance3 жыл бұрын
It is best to not provide any food or water to an injured bird. The rest time depends. I usually listen for rustling in the bag to know the bird is active and ready to go. If it doesn't perk up after an hour or so I will take it to a rehabber. I usually don't wait longer than two hours. -Kaitlyn

These bird songs are the definition of Spring migration in NY! The chip calls are harder to learn, I think.

Great video, Tom. Thanks so much for producing this series on Virtual Birding by Ear. It’s very helpful to birders who really want to learn bird song and to understanding how birds communicate and why.

This is a great series, Tom. Please keep posting! The comparisons are especially helpful and when a recording is slowed down to half speed I can more easily understand the elements and phrases of the songs. Thanks for working on these videos.
