The same thing happened to my GE Monogram ZUG385NSM1SS cooktop. The flame intended to heat the ignitor was absent or nonexistent on three burners. I ended up removing the burner and cap, then unscrewing the simmer (small) orifice and reaming it out with a hand drill bit (0.5 mm). After reassembly, the flame appeared over the igniter. Took just a few minutes per burner. 2/28/23

I don’t believe it’s heat that deactivates the igniter, I’m pretty sure it’s an electrical circuit that the flame completes. Im not a expert, just a home owner. Cheers

This is literally the only video i found that truly addressed the issue! I had not idea about the flame heating the igniter. Nor did I know about the simmer orifice! Thank you!

that is just the pool inside of a larger enclosure that they would usually swim in, obviously it has had to be emptied in order to clean the faeces and grime that inevitably has collected in the bottom, you can even see the remaining water in the bottom of the now emptied pool along with all the mud that has also collected in the bottom, the pool is also located within a sandy, large enclosure, the pit isn't their home, just the place they usually swim in, they have collected in there because gharial run to water when spooked, so the gharial that fled to the pool stayed there as the water was removed

@@zodiac6968 You condescending twit, these crocodiles are released into the wild when they are 6-9 years old. There was a time time when they were endangered species, because of the efforts of these people in conserving this species through breeding programmes the numbers of gharials have increased considerably. These people are infinitely more enlightened than you, when it comes to the mind it's you that is subsisting on frugal means.

I have the same GE cook top, I haven't used the left lower burner for about a year because of the clicking. I knew it wasn't the igniter because I went as far as switching them out. Same problem.. I just decided to look on the internet for solution, low and behold I found your video. The pesky clogged simmer orifice was my issue. I used a pin point ( careful not to break the tip) stuck it through both sides of the orifice (It removes easily with a pair of slip joint pliers) to free the debris. FIXED. Cost to me $0!!!! 1000 thank yous Kim!!!!

Yep. Same GE 5 burner propane cooktop. Same problem....iginiters kept clicking after stove is lit when main (center) burner was turned to lower setting. As you state, either the main jet (in the hole in the center you see when top plate & flame spreader are removed) or the simmer jet are clogged. (or both) Best way to clean them is use 1/4" drive 7mm socket or 7mm nut driver, and remove the jet. Look thru the hole in the underside of the jet while holding to a good light source. If you can't see a pin hole of light up in the jet, it's clogged. I used a small diameter sewing needle and pair of pliers to run the needle thru the jet hole....hole is VERY VERY small, my needle would on stick out the top a little, but enough to clear whatever was clogging it. Re-install jets, top pieces and fire it up......eliminated my problem.

thanks alot kim for posting this video , you saved me from buying a new stove , my gas burners were not working and some burners wouldn't go high or wouldn't turn on at all , until i took apart and saw how the small orfice was totally clogged up in two burners , oh happy day when all my burners are fully functional and now let there be fire. I learned something new thanks to you.

Why does the consumer have to put up with this just for keeping the cooktop clean? We have a telescoping vent by Jennair. It's been at the repair shop for over 1 year, going on 2. If I had to do it all over again, I would have put my gas cooktop against an outside wall and vented it with a standard vent. All of our kitchen appliances have failed us (including a front-load dryer unit) since we remodeled ~7 years ago. We've already replaced our Electrolux d/w. We left a side-by-side GE fridge behind in another house and it's still going strong after 20 years, according to the new owners.

Nice job, Kim. Your troubleshooting steps and your thorough description of how the igniter works helped me immensely. Thanks very much. For anybody else viewing this video, it might not be a clogged orifice as Kim had, but might be some goop along the perimeter of the burner top that is preventing the igniter from being heated properly after the gas is burning. That was the case on my NG GE Monogram. Merry Christmas all.

Great video, thank you. The key is knowing that this GE and most other high end cooktops have two gas sources. The simmer lower volume gas source is what gets restricted or clogged and causes the igniter to not say lit. The constant attempts to reignite it with gas source restricted causes the clicking sound. My 2nd gas source was successfully cleaned with Acetone and a very small thin wire I was able to move up and down inside the pilot hole. Also used the wire to clean all the little holes around the simmer ring as a couple near the pilot were partially restricted as well. Bottom line, unit works now!

Kim you are a genius. Before viewing your videos, I had spent hours and hours reading product manuals, buying an unneeded new igniter switch, closely examining the igniter for defects and shopping for other unneeded part replacements. I had never thought to look closely at the relationship between the simmer aspect of the burner and the thermocouple aspect of the igniter. You are a good observer and problem solver... hats off to you! My cooktop is a DCS Fisher-Paykel but had the same problem as your GE Monogram with a blocked simmer gas orifice as you describe in your two videos. In my defense, it was easy to overlook the non-functioning of the almost-invisible simmer flame when the main burner was burning so brightly.
