@foxhaffenden1333 it got shut because all the "explorers" naming the place in their posts for everyone else to then turn up, when there's a high volume of people going and especially at night shining torches it will end up getting shut 😔 as I said I'm pretty sure I'm the only person not to actually name this place and was even deleting comments on Facebook when people said where it was... thing is it was to late as everyone knew from the urbexers that posted up before I did 🤷‍♂️

I live near this place. Some info for you, it was a great little pub but not enough sales to survive, so it was sold for development to a known violent landlord. The planning application was refused as the building is listed so been left to rot like all his other properties.

Ah, this is my home town. I urbex abandoned homes in the area, mostly places fully furnished and forgotten since 80s-00s. The owner of this hotel is a locally infamous and polorising character, who owns a family brand defined by golden lions. Considering the amount of money he's historically splashed around, it's sights like this that remind you that investments must be sustainable. A hotel that fails in a very popular seaside holiday town is just pathetic.

Although I'm against knocking down buildings, this one isn't worth saving IMHO. It just has no appeal. Bland rooms, tatty carpets and cheap furniture. There are some nice items in there. Sell those along with the rest that anyone wants or needs, donate the rest and knock it down. Build a nice new hotel in its place, the location is great!
@TheDramacist
@TheDramacist 16 күн бұрын
The things you list are just furnishings. The whole place needs modernisation. The real indication of quality is window size, ceiling height, sound insulation and original fixtures. Many of the seafront hotels are Victorian and well worth keeping. But the cost of upkeep and renovation is huge. Mr Gulzar hasnt managed to maintain his hotel chain in a popular seaside town, which tells you a lot about his financial shortcomings
@mathieubroersma
@mathieubroersma 15 күн бұрын
@ it has many leaks now making the wood rot and not too many original features are left. It's not worth saving anymore because doing this up is not economically viable. I would like to see the owner pay through the nose being forced to maintain it even when not in use, but councils often let them get away with it.

Towards the end of last year tennted farmer's had to move out, especially if they had castle, as they were hit hard with TB, losing all there cattle. We should appreciate farmer's more, they get little money for the milk, selling to the supermarkets, 4p for a 2pints of milk.

I think the house had been renovated at some time, probably late 80s or early 90s so the fire places have remained unused. The Rayburn / Aga is a relatively new model. And as Donna has said, the room was used for butchery absolutely. Hanging the carcasses to “hang” for a period. That would stop me buying that house completely
