IMO you can't mix dirt and street w/o Severe Compromises.. I'd go so far as to say that a Dual Sport with typical tires is Unsafe on the Road. It's unstable at any lean.. I found myself at moderate lean suddenly overshooting the lean and correcting back. My skills were getting worse on the road.. I first put on Street tires.. 21 front/ 18 rear. Wow!!! Linear handling.. Precise lean control returned.. no non-Linearity as the lean progresses.. My skills instantly improved by the hour. Sorry, you're Mileage will Vary, but I can't do dual sport tires on the road.. plus now the bike is total smooth at 65 MPH. So Impressed, I'm Going full 17" super moto.

Ha! We have a couple of Jackrabbit XG bikes that we cruise around our little town on! Speed limits are 25 MPH in town, it's a golf cart town too. So much fun on the e-bikes. The ones we have don't have pedals, so it's technically a scooter, which means it is legal on the sidewalk.

I have a 2019 that I have owned for 2 of the 4 years it has been on the road and I can't think if any bike I would swap it for. This is a do-it-all motorcycle and is very easy to live with. There are bikes that I would like to have in addition to the FJR but non so far that I would have instead of it. I agree with you about the backlit switches - that is something I've thought would help because there are so many buttons on the left side that you forget which one does what and exactly where it is in the pitch black . I also like Two Wheel Obsession's channel for good how-to's on FJR maintenance.

There are definite practical limits. Ultra-powerful bikes like a Kawasaki H2 are impractical as hell, you'd better be prepared to spend a lot more on new tires at the very least. The Panigale V4S is an amazing machine, riding it was an incredible experience but there really aren't places on the street to use 200 horsepower. The BMW S1000RR is a bike that feels like it can be comfortably ridden all day, it's around 190 at the wheel as I recall, but even riding it on a track (VIR at a CA Superbike School) it's mainly useful for acceleration and you aren't using it all, the straights aren't long enough. My Bonnie is around maybe 60, works just fine for general riding. My old Yamaha 500 gets around 40, and I've ridden it across the country and back. My '97 Daytona 955 is somewhere in the 125hp range, and there are definite advantages to having that on tap at times, there have been numerous spots where I'd pull out and accelerate around other traffic on it where the Bonnie just couldn't do the same thing in the same amount of space and time. But I still can't use it all

I hate when retarded people online say "efi is so much better than carburetors". They obviously never ridden a carburetor motorcycle. Direct rear wheel response to your input. Electronic throttle on top of efi is just an aberration. I can't say Honda doesn't know how to do efi work amazing. Just find a 20yo CBR, you'll understand what I mean. But with all this Euro5, 5+, 5+extreme, 5 ultimate... Nonsense, won't take long for them to make us walk, and pay road tax for that. And shoe sole carbon footprint tax, and footsteps noise fees, earth removal tax... It's sad how low we got. I don't really appreciate the smell of old motorcycles, that was an improvement for sure, fuel economy also improved, but the bad is also really bad. Be it Honda or anyone else.

In 2017, i rode my 2017 klr from south central PA to Outer Banks. Down to Gatlinburg TN and all the way to Key West. also rode my KLR from south central PA all the way to newfoundland and back. I've done the TAT on my 2009 KLR from North Carolina to astoria Oregon. One thing i would suggest is to stay off the large highways. Stick to the 2 lane roads. It does okay on the highways at 70mph. But you're gonna burn some oil and get blown around a little.. Also, the vibration gets annoying over 65 MPH. Your hands and feet will tingle after a while. Oh, and it's a blast on the twisties and intermediate trails. The bike is absolutely bulletproof as long as you keep the oil changed. You do not have to worry about the doo hickey anymore. Kawasaki has worked all the bugs out of them. As far as i know, they had a recall on the 2022-2023 fuel pump/carb. It has been resolved as well. There is plenty of power from the stock stator to run Aux lights, GPS, and a dual USB charger. Im planning on buying a new one in april. You just can't get a better dualsport/ adventure bike for the money.

It is absolutely gutless and heavy as fuck making it a chore on road. The kickstand is so worthless I might as well not use it, the headlights look as if I was driving by candle light. Riding a 'slow' bike fast is way more fun than riding a fast bike slow. If you've got enough power to lift the front over stuff and break traction, you don't really need much more. Doesn't matter if you have 150 or 1500hp if you can't put all that power down and turn it into velocity. A spinning tire is a spinning tire, it'll drift and slide as long as you can initiate it and use that body english. I 'commute' offroad, my driveway and road is several miles of steep twisty dirt, some jumps, and a nice paved canyon carving run for half of it. Power is only half the game, braking is where the real 'speed' is. I'm on a big mad max dirt bike and i can just lose sportbikes in the canyons because they can't hit speed and have to brake while i'm still pinned. I'm light and got the biggest brakes i could fit, i can smash turns so much faster, or back it in like a supermoto. And i'm not even on the limit, far from it, i just carry speed strategically for longer, use momentum and flow. The big 'secret' is how you ride. If you ride like a sack of wet rags, dead weight, a passenger, then it's 90% bike and 10% rider, but actively lean, stand up, synergize movement, unweight the bike over rough stuff, use coordination, cooperation, body english, stomp on pegs, drift planned and on purpose safely in control rather than be surprised by it, then it becomes 90% rider and 10% bike. You don't even have to be pro, just stand up when you need (on dirt, over obstacles, etc.) make smooth deliberate motions, use common sense and feel to respond. Keep the bike loaded, either with acceleration, braking, or both (drag rear brake and overcome wit throttle to engage the suspension's anti-squat properties and make the bike more stable and locked in.) An unloaded bike will wallow and feel loose. If the bike feels 'heavy' rolling over potholes and ruts, stand up and 'hop' without leaving the pegs to momentarily unweight your body and the bike will glide over stuff. This is all simple basic stuff anyone can do that makes a world of difference, just be an active rider and cooperative partner with your bike and not a sack of wet rags passenger demanding your mechanical slave do the thing and take you to the place while you just rest and watch scenery go by. 50hp feels more like 70-80 once you take responsibility for your body weight and not use up all the bike's capability compensating for your fighting it by weighting it down with inaction. Most HP is lost covering up the mistakes and inaction of the oblivious sack of wet rags passenger. If you want to do that, cruisers are two wheeled cars with more comfy seats than your Civic, weigh like 800lbs and ride like grandpa's favorite padded recliner, they're built just to carry wet rags.
