When you mentioned no resolution of X, I immediately assumed you used (10^X) as the variable. (10^X)^2 = N, where N is a whole number (1). What is (10^X)^3 = ? From (1) 10^X = N^(1/2). Cubing both sides (10^X)^3 = N x N^(1/2). Substituting 9 for N gives (10^X)^9 = 9 x 3 = 27.
