Had one. Regret selling it. Best carry gun I ever had. The perfect combination of concealability, reliability, stopping power and versatility. Better than the lighter 638 as easier to feel it in a holster as you are walking so you are not constantly patting yourself to see if it is still there (not a great feeling to think it might have fallen out of your holster or been left in a service station toilet), feels much more robust, is a better impact weapon, and has less recoil. Love that you can do a safe cylinder rotation check after loading it by pulling the hammer back slightly rather than have to pull the trigger back slightly as with internal hammer revolvers like the 640 Centennial. Also safer to holster as you can put your thumb on the hammer so you can feel the hammer coming back if the trigger catches on something. Also love that you can thumb cock it for a more accuracy at longer ranges, while the covered hammer also allows you to fire it inside a jacket/vest pocket. Also love that it won't fail to fire or jam after firing if it comes into hard contact with an attacker, while I don't have to worry about an ejected case bouncing back into the ejection port if I am firing from cover. Also lots of great +P ammo around today like the Xtreme Defender loads from Underwood Ammo. Just needs a trigger/action job and/or Apex or Wolff spring kit to make the trigger usable in trigger cocking mode (the stock trigger on my 649 was too heavy). Also prefer the shorter travel trigger on J-Frames over those on many other small revolvers as my trigger finger is less likely to come into contact with the rear of the trigger guard or side of the grip, impeding the trigger pull.

Yep pretty cool indeed. My dad made a longbow from Pacific Yew back in the 70s when we lived in Florence ,Oregon. Draw weight was 70 lbs.. he shot some deer and elk with it.. he also knapped his own points. My ex-wife threw it in the dump when I was in Alaska😡.

If tthe johnson holds 10 and garand hilds only 5,,,,,, in a fast combat situation. Now i dont know how hot barrel gets to warp. I have to remember the insane recoil, and re- targeting takes way to long 3 seconds on iron sights.?? You would really have to ask real life combat vets whis actually used them to get a clear real answer!! At least to me

Thx for the tipp with the Gassystem. I know a Cave in Thuringia Germany where you can find several Weapons from WW2. The place was used by the SS because as the US Soldier go to Thuringia to find secret German Technology they fought against several SS units and fought for days against them. So there are Weapons used/stored by the SS. In the early 80's my Grandfather on my father's side and a friend found it go all the way trough the Cave and came out in Bavaria, in that Cave they found several boxes with Weapons, Equipment and Awards, They will certainly not have searched all the boxes as the cave is at least 5 kilometers long and is largely filled with water. The Americans and local residents will probably have found the cave beforehand, but they never got any further in because of the water. Only my father knows where the entrance is, his father died in the early 2010s (by the way, he was one of the first in the kVP and later in the paratroopers of the NVA) and his friend died 3 years after exploring the cave in a traffic accident.

if you have 3 letters on the barrel , the first represents the month and the second or second together with the third is the year. I think you have two u's making it 1949. If the first letter is a "P" , I can't tell for sure , then its june. I have a 12 gauge with a Heter's adjustable choke made in 1948. I'm so impressed with the qaulity of these shotguns. Remington didn't cheap out on the walnut either -very nicely figured and I see where they compared it to a ball bearing like action. Cool video and enjoy that slice of American craftsmanship of a bygone era.

Thank You for the update my Friend. Im on the "Order List" for mine. Its the final BR that ive really been wanting. The others are just edc for me. I used to buy several different manufactures knives, but switched to nothing but BR after having them excell in everything i do. Not a Fanboy, but amazed at how they perform. Soooo impressed with their heat treatment of A2 as well as other steels.

I would give up a Garand for an M1941 any day. A bayonet is situational, an extra 2 rounds isn't. Add onto that the unique load mechanism of the M1941, easier top off, less weight, no requirement to have a clip at all times, detachable barrel, the action that would go on to serve in the AR platform, the side eject instead of the top... Downsides are slower reload, worse accuracy, a bit less reliable, and no bayonet. Ffs, the Carbine could have been an M1941 with a lower power cartridge, perfect for backline personnel. But no. At least the Johnson action got its due on the M16/AR15 platform.

Some people simple don't understand the Garand's safety. Putting your finger inside the trigger guard will not make the rifle fire. You can yank on the trigger till the cows come home, she won't fire with the safety engaged. The safety is disengaged by pushing FORWARD with your trigger finger ( Forward, as in AWAY from the trigger ). AWAY... Once disengaged, your finger is at the very front of the trigger guard, far from the trigger. It'll take deliberate effort to move your trigger finger back to the trigger. Designed by JM Browning, so it IS Correct. ( peasants... ) ☆

Very few rifles can steel the scene when a garand is in frame, but this is one of them.

Seems his Johnson is bigger.

If your reloads are too tight, then that meants your shoulder isn't correct. You should make dummies to check feeding, and if they are too tight, adjust the die lower to change the shoulder.

The Johnson has a reciprocating barrel due to the recoil action, causing bayonet issues. It had to have a special light spike bayonet so it didn’t effect both the action & accuracy too much. So IMAO it should’ve come with a (SKS style) folding bayonet. So if could be zeroed with the bayonet fitted & then just left on, but folded back till necessary. Bayonet could also be purposely made to suite the gun as it would just stay on & not be used on other firearms.

IMAO the factory (or factories) that tooled up to make the Johnson should of been paid to keep making them till their tooling wore out. They also should’ve re-issued the couple of million M1917 Enfields they had left over from the 1st WW. Afterall they all add up, & it would’ve been cool to to see footage of all 4 (the M1903, the Garand & the previously mentioned 2) being used together.

I used to have one of those that I had customized by installing a 3" barrel from a model 60, and had it machined for moon clips. It was the .357 mag version also. 12:49 And oh yeah you're talking about General Nguyễn Ngọc Loan executing Nguyễn Văn Lém. Yeah the media presented that picture like General Loan was some big mean guy. They never presented the whole backstory to the picture! Lem was among some viet cong who had raided a national guard armory a few days prior. Lem had slaughtered a senior policeman and his wife and six kids because the senior policeman refused to teach him how to drive a tank. General Loan was a close personal friend to that policeman (Loan was the Chief of the national police). Also Lem fully admitted to what he did and basically said "f*** you, kill me"

I imagine the Embloc and Stripper even out in utility while running the gun. The top off is what sells the Johnson to me as well, topping it off is probably as efficient as reloading the magazine in an M1A and you cannot do that with a Garand. The Johnsons were going to the Dutch East Indies when the Marines picked them up off the dock to arm themselves going out to Guadalcanal. There was also a Light Machine Gun Version and that quick replacement of the barrel feature made it much preferred over the BAR in addition to the lightness.

If it's a British contract S&W in 455 Webley, it's supposed to also take 45 colt as well as opposed to the American M1917s by both Colt & S&W, which were only in 45 ACP
