You are on a 21 day cruise, that´s 3 weeks of cruising, so packages are going to cost more, premium package works for us, it makes sense with drinks and tips and Wi-Fi , you guys goofed up, admit it, you also had a mini suite, you could have picked a balcony cabin and premium package and saved money, this is embarrassing.

The underlying reason for price increases and service cuts is due to the servicing of debt by the parent company, Carnival. The debt is immense and the money has to come from the consumer.

Its coming to an end, that being the one way street of phony markets and financialized economy. If your wealth is measured in dollars you will be going broke along with most others. Keep your eyes on bond market, its the key indicator.

Hi Tina & Norm, thanks for sharing! I noticed that my portfolio is extremely tech heavy (repeating the same mistake as 22 years ago). So, started to switch to stock funds/ETFs. Having said that, my portfolio also increased close to 20% in one year. If I add back the withdrawls I took during this time, the increment is over 23%. I hope it continues to grow like that, but the Pundits have been warning of Stock Market Crash😯Also, planning to go on a second trip to Europe this year

Good idea to do some financial check ups. People in retirement should be looking at their cash flow 2-3 years in advance in order to not have to sell stocks in a market downturn. Don't lock up all your money in investments. What goes up, will go down and you can't time the market.

Hello, love your channel and also your emphasis on quality of life….im planning to retire at 60 in 3 years if I can afford it and am wondering with regards to net wealth how much you feel is enough to retire?…I heard someone on another channel say $1.8 million which sounds crazy and unobtainable….at least for me.

Great plan to retire at 60 we were 58 and 60 , you don’t need $1.8 million not even a million ( or we wouldn’t have been able to retire ) . We will have to RRIF because if we cash in the RRSP our tax bill would be huge. Also as our “other” income decreases from photography a regular income from RRIF would be helpful. If you have a different perspective please share.

I don't know how you can think the carbon tax payback is worth mentioning. I receive 35$ x 4 year which doesn't move the needle. It's a scam brought on us by the current govt. I wonder how many other Canadians receive such a measly tax rebate.

I took my first Viking ocean cruise this past spring and think it’s a great value. Yes, it is a premium line but you don’t have to spend much on board. All non-alcoholic beverages are included and wine and beer with lunch and dinner are included. The specialty restaurants are not a separate charge and the lovely afternoon tea has no separate charge either. There is also an included excursion at each port and the other excursions are reasonably priced. Also if I remember correctly there was free internet. Also every room has a balcony and max capacity is only 930 passengers. Service was exceptional. I bought the premium beverage package that allowed me to have alcoholic beverages at any time and get a larger selection of wines at dinner - but I’m not going to pay for that during my next Viking cruise - if I want a drink in the evening I’ll just charge it to my room. So even though you pay more upfront with Viking, it is very easy to spend almost nothing during the cruise.

We are glad you had a great experience on Viking, the unlimited drinks are a great plus or just order as you go Cheers 🍻🙂🍷🚢

I have been thinking about who is funding your Canadian and British pensions that you clearly dont need. Must be the working generations, same as your children and grandchildren. Dont spend it all - leave the grandchildren plenty, as they are going to need it!
@ThisIsOurRetirementКүн бұрын
How about the 40 years we have both contributed to these pensions. We live off these pensions entirely. You don't seem to understand how pensions work. 🇨🇦🇬🇧
@Spowers2411 сағат бұрын
Governments did not save and invest your pension contributions over 40 years, they spent them as soon as they got them. So they now have a massive and rapidly increasing unfunded pension liability, being a burden on current and future generations of taxpayers.

Congratulations to you two. As an ex-banker I hear you about your net worth growing faster than you can spend. We never put our money in MM; we do equity and GIC's and control our money with RBC Direct investing - we have increased our net worth by over 200% in the last 10 years of retirement. We do an evaluation 3 times a year and monitor our accounts regularly. So happy to hear that you are proud of your portfolio and it's performance. Helping our kids is great but we have worked hard and sacrificed a lot in our early years so we are entitled to spend money on whatever gives us joy and comfort and still practice frugality. @@ThisIsOurRetirement Thanks for that clarification. I'm usually doing our net worth update at the end of the calendar year so that I can compare our performance against the major stock indexes. Yes, this means I have to do a lot of work in January when I'm snowbirding, but it's not terrible to have a small financial project to work on when away from home - keeps the mind active - but I do have to bring a laptop along with my digital financial files.

I just came back yesterday, Celebrity Constellation transatlantic, and the prices are almost double what you are complaining about Princess! Also, I am looking for the next cruise and my favorite line, Holland (also owned by Carnival), has increased prices drastically, and if you add those packages...forget about it! However, I have the impression that all those increases and push sales are backfiring on them. As us, people are not going for those. All lines are doing the same! Inflation 🙄

I'm nowhere near retirement yet, but I am thrilled at my portfolio growth this year, up nearly 25% YTD. I invest in broad market index funds because they are low cost, but I am careful to maintain really good diversity among the funds I hold, covering all sizes of US companies, foreign companies, REITs, tech sector, etc. I use to trade individual stocks, but I realized it's not necessary to get excellent returns and I'm too busy to devote time to the research anyway, so I don't bother with it anymore. I kind of miss owning brands that I actually like and use directly, but I still own them in the funds I hold. In any case, I hope this bullish market continues, but even if it doesn't I'm fine with a market correction since it's just an opportunity to buy shares at a discount. However, it feels a lot more scary if you're retired, compared to when you're still working and accumulating.
