This vlog is mostly about top stitching and matching thread. And maybe I missed it, but wouldn't top stitching happen before inserting the elastic?

Top stitching is how you finish an enclosure such as the one required for the elastic to be fully enclosed inside a scrunchie. It would be the final step to finish this product. If you did the topstitching beforehand, you would not be able to get the elastic inside. Top stitching and thread matching are finer details that often set apart higher quality products from lower quality products. A sloppy top stitch is usually indicative of sloppy craftsmanship throughout the entire product.

Hi, sorry for any confusion. I close the gap of the scrunchie after placing the elastic inside by folding the seams under and topstitching the top close. Hi, I wanted to make a correction to what I said for fabric layout/cutting on grain. I talked about cutting on grain implying that I cut these on the length grain, but I actually aligned my pattern with the grain and cut them on the crossgrain. I find it easy to mix these terms up when talking about them. Sorry for any confusion. You’re always welcome to leave a comment bellow if I say something incorrectly or that needs further explaining. Why don’t you get a straight cut rotary cutter and a wide dressmaking ruler. It looks like you are putting a lot of pressure on your hand.

Fisckers has a wavy rotoray cutter that is like pinking shears, just use a long roller next to it, will save your hands with cutting

That sounds like a interesting cutter. I like it except for the rotary part. It bothers me to use a cutter like that, however I seen one with a ruler attached that I might be okay with. Maybe the pinking shears cutter can be used with it as well. Thank you for sharing that with me :)

@@skyannjoyHave a look at creative grids stripology rulers on youtube. I use these with a sew easy ruler grip safety handle, and it makes cutting quicker, easier and safer when using rotary cutters. Also good for making your own jelly rolls when quilting.

Hi Sky-Ann! I came across this video and enjoyed the video and chat. I’m looking forward to the launch of your online store. My mom is a fan of(what she refers to as) “hair decorations” 😆. She’s mostly a fan of fabric decorated hair clips. She still puts her hair up in a twist then clips her “hair decoration” along side the twist. Any chance you may want to venture into creating fabric decorated hair clips? Just thought I’d ask. Hope you have a great weekend!!😊
