A friend shared this with me today as I enter into a completely new and unfamiliar season of life. I found myself reminded and so grateful God chose to reveal himself to us through Jesus. I found myself so grateful that after 20 or more years in God’s word and his faithfulness in every fire I have an understanding and confidence in his character I didn’t have when I was younger. I find myself so grateful I can yoke myself to Jesus and not face this new season alone. I no longer have try to control the outcome or control others. I no longer have to figure out what to do next. I can grieve and be held. I can pray and wait. I can trust the Holy Spirit to be my guide. I can put the responsibility on God to lead, guide and provide. My job is to just follow. It definitely feels too easy. God is unyoking the control and the burden to perform and figure things out. He’s yoking me to Jesus; my comforter, my counseling and my friend who always provides the unfailing love, mercy, grace, forgiveness, compassion and tenderness I need to enter the unknown. He’s helping me lay down the compulsion to do and fill the void and just be with him and let him lead, guide and provide. Your words reminded me Jesus wants to do the heavy work for us! What a Savior we have! Thank you for this! I love the verse you left us with: Matthew 11:28-30 The Message “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me-watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”

Thanks so much Laurie! It’s been years since I’ve heard your voice, and hearing you speak flooded me with many cherished memories of years ago. The passage you spoke on is relevant to Tracy and me, as we just began a 6 month sabbatical from our formal roles in ministry. We hope to come down at least one Sunday and visit Church One. Please send our love to Ed. Thanks again for your beautiful reminders this morning! - Jeff Smith

Reading through the online page at churchone.us regarding the precautions I am so thankful this is being approached with humility and a desire to serve rather than an assertion of our rights. Becoming a Christian is about giving up your wrongs but following Jesus is about giving up your rights out of love for others. Thank you overseers for you great concern for our community.
