Neville hits the nail on the head: it is so bloody hard to play without the ball. This has been the main factor of every England team I have watched since 1986. Southgate will get the blame, but every England manager since sir Alf had had the problem of getting his players to retain the ball so they have the legs to last. We will forever be hamstrung until our players are comfortable in possession with and also without the ball and end up losing against superior technical teams.

Just so right … the smell themselves and could be plastered with xxit and their press assure them it’s all cologne … especially the white boys they can do no wrong .. notice how they’re desperate to anoint Phil foden as the next big thing…. It was Owen then Rooney then Kane now foden … none of whom are best at any time …

Reality check English players believe in their own hype and think they are better than other teams that’s why they don’t succeed. English players are successful in club level because they have foreign players to guide them along but when they are left to rely on their countrymen playing for England they fail.

English football clubs in the former European Cup had a golden era winning six cups on the bounce from 1977 to 1982,, something no other country had ever achieved. And all before the foreign influx we see today. There were 9, 8, 8, 6, 8 and 8 English players in the winning final teams from 1977 to 1982 with English Managers; Bob Paisley, Brian Clough and Tony Barton. In fact to biasedly ignore the English greats in the Liverpool teams of Ray Clemence, Tommy Smith, Phil Neal. Phil Thompson, Emlyn Hughes, Kevin Keegan, Jimmy Case, Alan Kennedy, Ray Kennedy, Terry McDermott, Sammy Lee, David Johnson, and super sub David Fairclough etc, who were at one stage or another in these successful teams of Liverpool.

The inauguration of the Ballon d' Or in 1956 of which the English won the first - Stanley Matthews. Then Billy Wright and Duncan Edwards 2nd and 3rd respectively in the next one in 57, Johnny Hayes 3rd in 61, and our great Jimmy Greaves 3rd in 63, Bobby Charlton 1st in 66, 2nd in 67 and 68 respectively, Bobby Moore 2nd in 1970, Kevin Keegan 2nd in 77, but 1st in both 78 and 79. Gary Lineker 2nd in 1986, Alan Shearer 3rd in 1996, David Beckham 2nd in 1999, Michael Owen 1st in 2001, Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard were 2nd and 3rd in 2005.

@@stephenrichardson9540 Yes and a very good past ;) If you want - what some call 'proper' sport - and 'muscle', then it was fantastic our English rugby kids won the U-20 today - their 4th title (to the Kwi's on 6) in history of the event since it started in 2008. We won against France in the final on the 'Springboxs' turf in Cape Town, South Africa;. This means Emgland have now been in 10 finals - winning 4 - and runners-up 6 times, out of a possible 14 championships! (Kiwi's have been in 9 finals winning 6 ...We are the most finalists of all the nations ;)

Loving the praise for Bukayo Saka from rival fans! Bukayo's equalising goal for England definitely brought back memories of his Emirates strike against United in the 2022/23 season, when he scored the leading goal at the 53rd minute! Sure, any United fan might've been fuming then, but that's the beauty of football. Club rivalries fade when it's England on the pitch, and all Three Lions fans, Arsenal, United, Spurs, everyone, would be buzzing for Saka's goal! #COYG

Holland here; youre boring 😴 I was speechless watching a team like England happily waiting for penalties, what is wrong with you?? How many teams win on extra time 3x in a row? Youre going home boys, against a b-team of strikers that couldn't make it in the Premier league 🍊
@simonnoelkavanagh14 күн бұрын
Well said, Brazil in 02 is how you win a tournament; no pks, no extra time, just win. England have had some bad luck over the years, hand of god, lampard's shot over the line, pks, but they'll be caught out against the Dutch, or Spain anyways. Their luck with run out for sure. They had their absolute GLORIOUS chance, at home, at Wembley, in front of their fans, taking an early lead, playing with a superior team and STILL blew it!!!😢 Can you imagine Italy playing at home, in Rome at a major final, scoring after a few minutes, having the impetus, then inexplicably taking their foot off the gas, retreating back, eventually conceding, shrinking back more, playing for pks, then losing? Don't think so...if they could, just once, play with zero fear (again Brazil 02 or Argentina 86) with the actual amazing skilled players they have, would spank Spain..... Fernando Hierro, Pablo Picasso, King Carlos, Antonio Banderas, Rafael Nadal, Julio Iglesias, Luis Enrique, Salvador Dali, Penelope Cruz, Miguel de Cervantes.....can you hear me Cervantes? Your boys might take one hell of a beating...
