I found playing around in rec with miniDSP, that by the time I made corrections, added subsonic filter (3rd order-18dB Octave) at 10Hz, LP 18db octave at 80Hz I was soon running out of filters just on the sub!, we could do with at least 20 eq's in there to really smooth out the response.

running line-level into an amp will do what?

Quick question, just got a new Pioneer AVR with Dirac Live (but no Bass Control), can I get the DDRC-24 and use it for 4 for subs i currently have connected to the AVR? Just wanted to better understand if they can work together well, or if there was a different approach or procedure that should be taken to get the 4 Subs processed. Thank you!

Are you sure they use brass connectors? It says on their website that they use “gold plated copper.”

In a nutshell. If you don't have seperate Preamp and PowerAmp it is better to avoid mini DSP / Exteanal dsp that let you equalize the main speakers with Subwoofer. So those with Integrated amp can not use mini DSP / External dsp and thetefore better avoid Subwoofer. Otherwise it is too complicated and the only way would have to be choosing a Subwoofer with Speakers line in and out ( 8 speaker lines) in order to create this equilibrium by making the main speakers use the same DSP of the Subwoofer. One thing to mention is tgat DSP wether seperate DSP ir the Sub DSP when influences the sugnal tgat comes to the main speakers might not be the way to go for audiophiles since you are adding extra component between the ma8n speakers and your HiFi system. Soo. best buy a good set if speakers that go as liw as 40 Hz and enjoy their dynamics. No need for this extra low bass. Tge bass of the speakers is good enough. Thise will be a three way speakers not two way. Like sonus faber sonetto III or V. Like more echonomical Dali oberon 5 or something like that.....

If it turns out you can't, try using a blue sharpie on them.

Nobody considers HOW MUCH brass we are talking about. On the comment about brass in the connectors: Yes copper is indeed a better conductor, but consider how thick the brass is in the connector along with how short it is in the path. Recall, thick and short means almost no resistance at all. Worry more about the quality of the connection to the wire and the plug to the jack.

I can tell you're a little uninformed about cables. Banana plugs are made from brass instead of pure copper for very good reason. Brass is a copper alloy, but it is much harder/stronger, and corrosion resistant than copper. Pure copper is too soft and malleable to be used for banana plugs, and it corrodes much more easily. It just isn't practical to make pure copper wire terminals, they would deform and break in short order. Ever wonder why power cord terminals are made from brass instead of copper? For the exact same reasons that speaker wire terminals aren't... And for the record, brass terminals don't "bottleneck" copper speaker cable.
@JohnSmith-qi6co Жыл бұрын
Another reason they can't possibly "bottleneck" is that even though copper may be a slightly better conductor, we are talking about brass that is quite thick and really short (< an inch or so). Thick and short means almost no resistance.

I listened CAREFULLY to your recent review on BLUE JEANS cables and I really enjoyed it. I’m new to the cable business, and I would dare to ask your advice. My modest channel includes an ARCAM 10S amp, an EXPOSURE 3010S CD player (very good side) a Streamer NODE 2i, MONITOR AUDIO RS6 speakers. The RCA connection cables and speaker wires are the original. I would like to upgrade the RCA cables for the STREAMER and for the CD player to connect with the ARCAM. What do you suggest in the range of BLUE JEANS products. I would need your suggestion also for speaker cables that I would also be willing to change...always in the BKUE JEANS range. In your recommendations, you can go with the most interesting products of this company. It’s quite a mandate I give you...and I would understand if you didn’t have the time. Otherwise, I would greatly appreciate your help. Have a good day...

You did a good review with a lot of configuring of the MiniDSP , specially measurements, that will help many possible users, basic and sometimes too simplyfied BUT very usable.If you dedicate to audio engineering you will become a good very engineer. I waited for a long time and never saw the most important info: how did it sound compared to other DSP?

So thanks for the review--I understood most, but I still have a question or two. You mention that all of the xo filters and PEQ should be done to the speakers first, before adding the DIRAC (that's /dɪˈræk/; btw after the awesome physicist and mathematician Paul D who conceptualized the delta function that DSP and a whole lot more depends on). I get that--I'm a longtime DEQX user (and after decades of trading in one set of very expensive speakers for another, started to build my own, bi or tri-amping using the DEQX and have never even so much as looked at a commercial speaker since--you should consider pushing it to the next level if you can with the miniDSP--there are so many great kits out there; find one you can buy sans XO components and even better find one that can drop into the prebuilt cabinets from Parts Express. Then all you have to do is route the holes for the drivers--which you afford to spend considerable money for since there is no retail markup--SB acoustics/Satori, SEAS, Scan Speak, Focal, Accuton, etc.. Anyhow I forgot my question and it really is more about the DSP 2x4 and other modules so I'll look there. And I see this is 4 years old, perhaps you have taken the plunge already. If not you should really, really consider it--the Spica's are fine speakers, but with 6 channels of amplification (like that crazy good deal Monolith amp) and perhaps $800. for drivers, you could make a giant killer. All without ever touching a soldering iron--well there are leads that need to be soldered, much less getting into the arcane universe of passive XO design.
