I'm a 45 year old who has been playing for about as long as you have. Are you taking lessons or teaching yourself with the books?

I'm just following instructions in the book to learn myself, I don't have enough time to have a teacher, maybe in the future.

That is not bad at all, but you should try to be more relaxed when you are playing and do not hold the bow too tight, just feel comfortable with both hands, you will be much better! I believe

To prevent that shriek gorm happening I recommend maybe applying some more pressure when playing. Hat will help create a better sound... You got this!!

Howdy! Heres some constructive criticism from someone whos played violin for some years. 1. Your bow tilt. Your bow seems almost horizontal. In order to get a good solid sound, having good contact with the bow and the string is essential. Of course, this tilt also relates to your bow hold (which is kind of hard to show in text form but I will attempt.) All of your fingers are diagonal, and your knuckes are pointing out. You want your knuckles to be straight, which will give more control over the bow. As I said, its hard to describe it over text, so I would reccoment looking up a video pretaining to this topic. 2. Focus on keeping your bow movement straight. You kind of have a diagonal see saw motion, which is normal. When moving up and down, because you and the violen are diagonal, when you move the bow what you think would be up and down its diagonal. One tip to help fix this would be to look at you in the mirror and find the motion which gives you that more straight up and down motion. This up and down motion is important because that diagonal motion leads to your bow gradually leaving the lane its in (the different sections in between the bridge and the fingerboard) which also contributes to the a scratchy sound. As well, leaving your lane has ramifications on your dynamic level (a general rule is that bowing closer to the bridge=louder). 3. Your wrist is pointing out when your bowing. You want your hand to your elbow all to be straight when near the frog of the bow (because of course it will change when your moving). The movement of the bow comes from the elbow and wrist in tandem to create a smooth bow stroke. 4. Keep the elbow on your bow hand up! One excorcise I would reccoment is recording yourself just moving the bow up and down on an open string, stopping at the mid point, continue to the top of the bow, go back down, stop at the midpoint, go to the frog, and repeat. During the breaks make sure to look at your form and correct accordingly. You need to start slow and master the fundementals of violen technique before moving on to more advanced things. The most important fact is to have fun! Nothing is more important in the master of an instrument than enjoying it. If you dont have the motivation, then you can never improve. I admire your want to play! Keep it up, your doing great! If you have any questions just ask!

Hyung, if you do the first song as quickly as possible and do the same for the next song, you can improve your skills. Tempo doesn't matter. It's practice, so do your best.

Wow! You sound so good! I noticed a few things that I would fix. 1) Your left thumb is very high and sort of wrapping around towards the g string 2) you are accidentally hitting other strings sometimes. The way to fix this is to slow down and think about the right elbow which controls which string you play on. This is also a great exercise for cleaning up the sound on string crossings. 3) Use more bow, especially on the long notes. Instead of putting more pressure on the bow, move the bow slightly faster and go all the way from the frog to the tip and back on quarter notes and longer. 4) Your left wrist should be kept straight. Relaxed, but straight. 5)You aren't moving your right wrist properly. It should be flexible and relaxed, keeping your bow straight. This mistake of not moving your wrist is often referred to as "pirate arm" and causes your bow contact point to be all over the place. I would suggest you read Ivan Galamian's book The Principles of Violin Playing and Teaching, specifically chapter three, which discusses the bow arm. 5) Spend more time learning pieces. Don't be afraid to spend months learning even the simplest pieces. Pick a piece that is too hard to sight read and learn the notes. Once you're comfortable with the notes, work on your technique, phrasing, and musicality. 6) Play slower! We all want to play at the written tempo, but when you are learning a new piece you need to practice slowly to clean up the sound and intonation. Keep up the great work and good luck!

Congratulations on starting this journey. You are sounding better and better. Also your left hand looks nice and relaxed and nice vibrato towards the middle of the video. I started learning to play the violin 8 months ago. I found that drawing longer bows at a faster speed produced much better sound than shorter bows at slower speed. I practiced doing this with open strings. Really improved my sound overnight.

As a student who takes individual lessons, as well as plays in a symphony school orchestra, youre doing amazing!! 210 Days and that good?! Took me way longer!! Heres some tips for what ive noticed: Try to play in one singular spot Keep a steading pace and tempo (For that you can use a metronome like you did, as well as watch some videos on how to see how notes (like eighth, half, etc) fit into the tempo) Try to improve your left hand positioning I would preferably take a slower tempo, then slowly increase as you get better, or I would just start with more simple songs!! If you can afford it, definitely take lessons!! It really helps! Just know that you have great progress, and im sure that you will be amazing!! P.S, I really admire your confidence to post this on a social media platform in today's society!!

You're doing really well! Get someone to show you how to bow- correct postuure and handling will save you from injury and you will get a beautiful tone out of your violin! Another tip, practice daily-even 30mins, learn scales-get a tuner app. Practice correct notes only-never practice incorrect notes then try to correct along the way!

I'm 36 and just started learning too. One tip I can give you is to play closer to the easel, more precisely in the middle between the easel and the fingerboard. You are moving towards the fingerboard while playing, and that makes you sound duller. Try to not move the bow, play on the same place.
