It's brilliant but they're playing without leads so are they miming to something they've just recorded? It looks like proper Clash to me. What a belting band they were.

@@iainshaw8104 I only saw them once at the beautiful Lyceum Theatre in the Strand London in 1978 where The Lion King has been playing for many years now! I was 17 and had already seen The Damned, The Jam and The Stranglers by this time. Anyway, the Clash refused to mime and only ever played live which is why they never appeared on Top of the Pops.

This was the pilot episode of a program called Something Else early in 1978. Clash played 2 songs on it: Clash City Rockers, their single of the time and Tommy Gun - released about a year later! It's still great to watch after all this time!!!!

Never seen this clip before! I've seen the Tommy Gun performance/Interview with Paul & Joe, in what looks like the same TV studio. This clip is F*#king great!! Thanks for sharing .... Does anyone know the date of this performance and what the TV show was called? Thanks. Dan

Yeah program was early 1978 - I saw it at the time. I think the program was called SOMETHING ELSE. This was the pilot episode. The rest of the series came nearly a year later.
@tonyjohn13955 жыл бұрын
Definitely it’s from “something else”. Joy division and The Jam did the same show.

Recorded on March 11th 1978. This version is pretty poor, I have a full copy, from a Umatic Master tape, the full show, it's perfect and I will upload it to my KZbin channel soon.

While I agree the Clash is one of the greatest bands of all time and one of my personal favorites, there IS more to music than just raw guitar and hard pounding drums. Bands like the Beatles made a mint on sappy love longs that are still loved today. A far cry from the sound of the Clash. The big band sound from long ago is still very uplifting to listen to, not to mention swing music that gets ya moving. But your right, todays stuff if mostly crap LOL
@bensikich644012 жыл бұрын
He played righty because his mentor, Tymon Dogg, played right handed. And as Joe would say, "That is D-O-double G way before Snoop Doggy Dogg." But learning with the opposite hand gave Joe his style. He had to strum the guitar because it is really hard to be precise with your non-dominant hand. He played so hard that it was almost like he was playing a percussion instrument. And he stomped holes in the stages of numerous concert venues.

@nkmcfrln It's seems odd that someone who's seen those bands would have a go at someone for slating a karaoke scene that's gone mad. And not only that, but saying all punk rockers are brainwashed. Now that IS funny, and I do declare sir that it's you who whiffs of bullshit...
@nkmcfrln12 жыл бұрын
@rp61wasinnocentok I'm a fan of the Clash, B.A.D., Havana 3 am etc. I've actually seen them live along with The Ramones and The Jam. I have to tell you that you've been brainwashed pretty bad like the the majority of "punk rockers." You're comment is bullshit and it's so far up your ass it isn't funny!
