I can walk to that viewpoint from my house in well under 2 hours. And I can make it from my front door to the top of they Stoneymollan in exactly 56 minutes! I sometimes forget how lucky I am to have Loch Lomond on my doorstep. Yeah sadly Balloch was a misery during lockdown - lots of large groups came here to party and cause mayhem because we didn't have enough police to enforce the rules. The village was busier than normal during it even though my friends in Glasgow and elsewhere said their streets were deserted!!
Most of Europe is few metres above sea level, even an altitude of 2500m can be challenging, leave alone 5400m. I was born and raised in Addis where the altitude ranges from 2400 to 3000m, and I managed to climb the two highest peaks in Africa Mount Kenya and Kilimanjaro, EBC bucket list.

Thanks, I have a DJI Osmo Pocket1 and was wonering whether I should buy an additional power stick (handle with built in battery) ... how did you find the battery life on your pocket2. Did it need to be recharged often ?
@TheHikeBegins Жыл бұрын
I had a solar panel clipped to my backpack so I constantly had charge. Well worth an investment. I was able to keep topping up the batteries as charging points at the teahouses are slow.
@AmSingh-j1i Жыл бұрын
HI .... sorry 1 more question, I've been having a play with my borrowed DJI OSMO Pocket 1, it seems to do a good job set at 4k 60frames. I'm not sure whether to experiment with the Pro settings. Did you use Pro settings and will I need ND filters due to how bright it will be in the Himalayas
@TheHikeBegins Жыл бұрын
Don't use Pro settings unless you plan on colour grading when editing. The image won't be as vibrant as it's designed specifically to be graded to preference. I had this turned off. Didn't use any ND filters. Quick tip, shoot in 2.7K/60 rather than 4K/60. The difference in battery life will be more helpful as it won't drain so quickly. I shot in 2.7K.

We are starting with a friend on Wednesday 7/06/2023. I have a question about the possibility of camping on the trail and access to water. Do we need to bring a water filter?
@TheHikeBegins Жыл бұрын
You won't be able to wild camp between Helensburgh and Arrochar as the majority of that section is Ministry Of Defense land, but you could find a spot down in Garelochhead. Arrochar has a campsite. Stock up on water in Helensburgh or Garelochhead and you should be fine, but it wouldn''t hurt to have a filter just in case. The cafe at the end will likely be open too. I believe a lot of the bridges have been replaced now since I walked it in 2020.

What an amazing video 👏🏼 I go in a few weeks and this was very helpful. Can i ask, I was really concerned at the amount of people falling quite ill with the altitude. Were many people taking diamox for the duration of the trek or just as and when they felt they needed it?
@TheHikeBegins2 жыл бұрын
Many thanks for your comments. Not all of the group took Diamox, some had begun taking it before they departed for Nepal, others took it as and when they felt they needed it. It's really a lottery, you simply may or may not suffer. I got very lucky, but also feel that maybe being focused on filming distracted me from thinking about it. Your trekking guides should be able to advise you better, but they are trained to recognise the signs early. The acclimatisation days will really help.
