Leave it to the LGBTQ community to make everything focus on a kids show sexuality. Growing up watching this show, I did not think about these characters sexually into each other. I just love the show for what it was as a child. In America they're cousins and nothing more, in Japan they're supposedly interested in each other.

The worst part about the old dub is that it has the implication that LGBT people are incestous, which is a REALLY unfortunate implication and unintentionally tells kids that LGBT people are sexual deviants who do awful sexual things. This reflects a whole trend in 90s American homophobia, especially in kids media. There has been entire discussion surrounding things like Ace Ventura and Disney Villains. Granted, not all LGBT representation in 90s kids media was bad, as The Babysitters Club proves.

I don’t care what anyone says about the old dub. It was one of the first things that made me discover I was gay. Yeah there was censorship like “cousins”, but it still raised conversation and helped us get to where we are today where shows are more accepting. We don’t live in an ideal world. We have to start from somewhere and I’m glad they let this show air in the 90s.
